the proper pc game model example

publishers are trying to impose new models for pc games, models
that damage pc gamers and favour publishers so we have to start
and separate pc gamer friendly publishers and non-friendly ones
and deal with them in a different way cause its the only way we
can defend the proper model for pc games

a example of a pc game coming from a pc gamer friendly publisher
which i think its the perfect example of a proper title is doom3

doom 3 is for me that example
(please i don't want to discuss the merits or not in regard to
type, gameplay, story in the game itself but rather the way it
is being sold played and patched)

this post is not about action games, shooters or doom3 the game
but only about the way pc games overall are being sold and no
this is not a post promoting doom3 but only stating facts about
two completely different approaches when it come to how pc games
are being sold currently

doom 3 is a 2004/2005 title sold all over the world in retail
stores and etailers with a liberalized price so you can find
the best low price possible and it features:
. liberalized pricing and sold in a variety of places
. a protective box for the game with a appealing cover
. a reliable that will last a life time manufactured cd-rom
. a very useful quick reference card
. a informative and well conceived manual
now that the expansion resurrection of evil has been released
two other very important and pc gamer friendly features have
been added making doom 3 the definite example of a proper pc
game titles
resurrection of evil added to doom3 becoming copy protection
free and cd inserted required to play free
yes you read it correctly doom3 now is not copy protected and
does not require you to insert the cd to play it
now lets go back and list again all the great features in doom3
. liberalized pricing
. sold in a variety of places
. a protective box to store the cd
. a reliable manufactured cd-rom
. a useful quick reference card
. a informative printed manual
. no copy protection
. no cd inserted required to play game
. patches available in individual files
. total freedom in the way you can run the game
. extremely stable software almost not needing patches
what else could we ask more in a pc game?
nothing! its just perfect
id software once again proved they are very pc gamer friendly
and even in a time dominated by copy protection and with the
menace of things like steam conquering pc games and turning us
into submissive slaved controlled consumers they manage to still
be true to pc games and be our friends and care for us
try to compare this with valve's greedy monopolistic attitude
with valve you have steam making pc games feature
. high fixed pricing
. only can you buy pc games from one place
. no competition and the creation of monopoly
. no protective box
. no reliable manufactured cd-rom to backup your game
. no useful quick reference card
. no informative printed manual
. abusive activation and ask for permission to use
. no patches available in individual files
. completely restrictive with no freedom at all
. on purpose unstable software to impose a weekly patch system
. first step into making pc games a service based entertainment
so should we deal with id software like we deal with valve?
don't we need to start now and treat them in a completely different
ways? yes we need!
with valve the only answer is TOTAL BOYCOTT to their products!
TOTAL BOYCOTT!
with id software we need not only buy their pc games but not
copy them to give to others, not lend our own units to our friends
and actively fight anyone who is trying to pirate id software's
games
id software trusted us, they took off the game's copy protection
and they took off the cd required to play so we need to show we
are worthy of their trust by not pirating the games
for all of those who can't stop wining about copy protection now
its the time to act! now its the time to show what you are made
off! doom 3 has no copy protection so now protect it from all
those disgusting vultures pirates that want to steal it from
id software!
we all should be the guardians of proper pc games like doom 3!
i talk about doom 3 specifically cause its the one i know but
any pc game with the same system deserves the exact same care
and protection from us all
and if you know other titles like this please warn us all!
proper pc games like that should be protected by every single
pc gamer in the world to show the industry we can be trusted
we are not savage criminals and pc games can be a enjoyable
to us and profitable to developers and publishers
actively fight against piracy! protect proper pc games!
defend well deserved developers and publishers profits!
long live pc games piracy and steam free!

Go screw yourself with a black and decker, please. The day we can get rid
of the dinosauric distributors in the value chain is a day I've been
longing for for a very long time. I don't give a hot sh.t about who has
the right to public a game in a certain geographic zone. I want to be able
to buy AND recieve a product the DAY it has been released, not wait for
four months while different publishers fight over who gets to publish the
product in my particular area.

Take your medication and stfu.

Steamkiller, you really ought to get a blog. Livejournal lets you set
them up for free.

I'm sure a lot of people will want to read your comments on a blog.

If Butter Pants is smart enough to figure out Live Journal then steamkiller
should be.

You give SK too much credit.

He can't do that anonymously, so he won't do it.

Best to killfile him.

Actually the only thing you need to get a LJ account is an email
account, which you should be able to get annonymously.

On this we can agree. But sometimes it's fun to push his buttons and watch
him dance.

LJ would still know his IP address. He seems to go to great lengths to hide
his identity (and even then he worries about his messages getting archived
by Google). Why? I have no idea. :)

As does Google Groups.  213.13.41.17 is some dial-up address on Telepac.pt.

The reasoning in obvious.  Of course, the reasons are moot when you know
what is not honoured.

Anyway, last legitimate post in thread.

I believe this to be a proxy. Looked at it before, and decided that I don't
believe that he is in Portugal. This is purely speculative, though, since I
never experimented with GG to see if it will work with web proxies and
other such toys.

Oh, that's easy.  He's a coward.

that is a great idea!
i really think i should do it
it really falls very short of my ambitious website but it
is a way at least to archive my articles properly

but i will not forget the usenet cause i feel its still the
privileged mean to communicate in the internet
so basically what i will do is post here and archive there
in that thing, what you call the blog
but don't fear this group will always have the stuff first
hand

and is livejournal the best?
any alternatives that i might check to choose from?
i want not only the best but also one related to games and
if also related to anti-steam that would be perfect
i want to the among "friends"

thank you very much Brian for this suggestion

But if you post to the blog, then the blog will be where people will go
to learn about Steam. It will turn up on Google searches, and then
people will go there. You wouldn't have to worry about the newsgroups at
all.

I don't know what's funnier. SK's dream of living among "friends"
by starting a blog, or the kid gloves Brian is using.

Yes! Yes! Yes! It would indeed be great! That way everyone can read your
lucid thoughts, insights, and opinions on the PC gaming industry and you
can even comment on *all types* of games without needing to cross-post
into irrelevant groups.

> it is a way at least to archive my articles properly

This alone would be providing a great service to society and to the
fragile future of PC gaming.

> but i will not forget the usenet

No no no ... I recommend you focus on your blog so you don't distract
yourself from your core purpose and intent.

Don't do it next week. Do it now! The fate of the free world of PC
gamers is counting on you!

hahahah, ARCHIVE MY ARTICLES properly, from someone who has turned off
archiving in this posts. Man, you ought to charge people admission for the
stupid funny things you type.
