Restoring Half-Life 1 saved games on a new machine

I've just installed HL1 on my new computer, and I'm trying to reload
my old saved game (I never completed the game).  I seem to be losing
about half the game.

The files in the saved folder are:

Half-Life-00#.sav (0 to 6)
c2a#?.HL#

After trying to load the saved game, the c2a files are deleted,
replaced with c1a files.  And I don't think I'm anywhere near where I
was in the game.  (The choppers were attacking and I was swimming.)

Can anyone tell me what's going on?

I can't tell you what's going on but you could try some other saved
games.

andtry on eof them, that might tell you whether it's the saved games or
your game installation.

Did you back up your old saved games somewhere?  If so, you can just move the
Half-Life-###.sav files directly into the new saved game folder.  You don't need
those other files, they will be generated automatically.

The default location is:
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\half-life\valve\SAVE

If you were previously only doing quick saves, and you didn't back up the old
quick.sav and quick01.sav, you're out of luck.  (Never a good idea to rely on
quick saves)
