They weren't _that_ much bigger.. the biggest of the Toro's was the '74 at 228 inches with a 122 in. wheelbase, the '68 which was by far better looking was 211.4 in. with a 119 in wheelbase. They started uglying them up in 69 and really turned them to sh.t from '71 until they discontinued it. http://encyclopedia.classicoldsmobile.com/toronado/

Well yeah, they all had a nice ride, they were after all two ton + cars with wheelbases that exceed the total overall length of most modern cars, but the '71 and on Toro's were just boxy Cadillac wannabes, uglier than sh.t. '66 through '68 (and the '69 & '70 but they got rid of the cool fastback look on those) were the classy years with style that looked like nothing else on the road. Then again the mid 70's on was a horrible time for most cars...

Expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, handles like a golfcart on its crappy tires and 55mph is stretching the truth. On the plus side, Leonardo Di Caprio drives one. Get a Golf Turbo diesel. Fun to drive, 30 city mpg and you can convert it to run on used cooking oil.

As for the mileage I'm sure the reported 55 all around average is only under 'best conditions' but so what? Even if it's 10 MPG off that's still better than any car out there and wouldn't those cost savings offset the maintenance costs?

I've owned one turbo in my life and I'll never buy another, naturally aspirated is the way to go. I've also driven a few VWs, granted they were older models and they all drove like bricks and the seats felt like they were made out of cloth covered plywood.

I'm jealous as hell but I can't afford beast like that. Next to that, currently petrol in The Netherlands is about $1.40 a liter, you calculate. The economy depends about as much on economists as the weather does on forecasters. ====================================================================== "My suggestion is to completely ignore idiots like Leland. They are the lowest form of pond scum. People like him have tried unsuccessfully in the past to disrupt the newsgroup. The best medicine is to completely ignore them. As I'm sure you'll see, they're most intelligent response is to yell nasty names. Other than that, they have nothing."
JG, netKKKop, alt.sailing.asa ====================================================================== "Warning to all: Steve Leyland is a trolling twat of the highest order. Killfile the muppet now and move on. Even the briefest of searches on his past UseNet posts will reveal the truth. You have been warned. *plonk*"
Bear, netKKKop, uk.rec.motorcycles ====================================================================== "I didn't delete any part of your meaningless, pointless, worthless post in order to clearly demonstrate that you are the nemesis of Usenet: the crossposting, non-editing, diagram-creating worthless, dickless, brainless, gutless, mindless, ball-less, spineless, flaccid, obese, fish-belly pale, ugly, VD-ridden, moronic, bald, hunch-backed, flat-footed, odoriferous, obnoxious, fecal-smelling, buck-toothed, physically handicapped, fungus-infected, HIV positive, mud-packing, masturbating, whining, simpering, self-important, arrogant, egomaniacal POS that takes up more bandwidth than a despicable binary-poster, and for no apparent reason beyond seeing his own defecatory vomitus slithering down the screen in vile green rivulets."
Admiral Halsey, alt.sailing.asa ====================================================================== "I went to the Garden of Love, And saw what I never had seen; A Chapel was built in the midst, Where I used to play on the green.
And the gates of this Chapel were shut And "Thou shalt not," writ over the door; So I turned to the Garden of Love That so many sweet flowers bore.
And I saw it was filled with graves, And tombstones where flowers should be; And priests in black gowns were walking their rounds, And binding with briars my joys and desires."
William Blake. ====================================================================== "When the Earth has been ravaged and the animals are dying, a tribe of people from all races, creeds and colours shall put their faith in deeds, not words, and make the land green again. They shall be known as Warriors of the Rainbow, protectors of the environment."
