dug out unreal. it requires dx 5.0? i unchecked the install of that.
Thinking it would bollox up dx 9. unfortuanetly it won't run. "general
protection fault" i found the unreal site and clicked to download the patch
but it isn't self installing just a .dll. Tried another link and you have to
pay to join to get into file planet. anyone else got it stored away
somewhere?

You don't have to pay at FilePlanet.... It's just an option you
have...

"The Buffalo Theory"
A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest
buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest
and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This
natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because
the general speed and health of the whole group keeps
improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as
fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of
alcohol, as we know, kill brain cells. But naturally,
it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.
In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the
weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more
efficient machine! That's why you always feel smarter
after a few beers.

Thanks to rms for pointing out the url, make sure you get the 226
patch and the multimedia update for it - the game suddenly looks and
sounds great again! Now, about the hi-res textures that are on ut cd2
(which I don't own).....

i have the 226 and the v 0.2 update from old unreal. It has made no
difference except that the guns are more shiny and the game flickers a bit
now.

Have you gone into options/advanced options and set the video driver
to opengl, and the audio to openal? I was wondering why it looked so
poo until I realised it was on software rendering - now it's on opengl
and looks great!
Don't forget, in the console (press ' or @) and type :
open thesunspire (or bluff, skytown, trench, etc...)
god
summon rifle
summon eightball
;)

I tried to use these long ago in the original Unreal1, but couldn't get
them to work right. This was some years ago tho. UTournament is prolly $2
now, might be worth picking it up and experimenting!

Uh, it doesn't sounds like DX is the problem, as I and many others play
Unreal 1 with DX9c without trouble.
