Can anyone help me get into the console, and edit the target or dos file.

I couldn't get the console key to work, so I use the command-line
method. Right-click on Half-Life 2 in Steam, and choose Properties. Then
click "Launch Options", and type "-console" in the box (without the
quotes). This way the console will appear automatically.
