Don't take my word for it.
Try it out. Switch all your steam-f.cked games to "Do not automatically update this game".
Wait a few days, next time they have any updates for the game in question, this game will switch
back on to "Automatically update...."!

This does not appear to be a bug!

I want a reply from a valve employee on why this is happening?
Why even bother giving users the option of choosing between the 2 options when eventually only one
is given? Is it for 'show'? Just to pretend to give users this option to stay 'legal'?

There are some serious legal issues here.
But doing such things, you are seriously violating your end-user's privacy.

I knew Valve is a M$ ball-licking company

But I just found out that Valve is a far more worst company than M$ when it comes to privacy and
respecting their users wishes.

I mean come on! Switching the automatic updates back to 'on'?
How despicable and pathetic can you people get?

its fun to see all of you accepting that crappy steam software. Feels like
the movie 1984.

I can never remember if 1984 is the one with the Savage Reservation, or
the one where the lovers are betrayed by the shop keeper. Or are they
both in the same book? I'm pretty certain it's the one with Big Brother
and the test tube babies at the start.

Anyway, back on topic, the suggestion that the op should ask Valve
seems like a good one. Maybe Valve do read this forum, but you're more
likely to get a response from the Steam forums. Or even try mailing
them direct. I've never seen Valve openly respond to a thread here, so
it's probably a bit pointless demanding they do so now.

A little while ago, someone posted here that this was fixed. Apparently
not. But I agree with the op that a program should not change its
settings behind your back. I would like this to be fixed in the next
patch.

Does anyone know if there is a place where you can submit bug reports
and change requests etc to Valve?

1984 is big brother, shop keeper was thought police.

I guess the steam forums would be a better place to start than

1984 is the lovers betrayed by the shopkeeper. Savage Reservation is
from Brave New World by Alodous Huxley.

It's a bit of a jump isn't it? I mean, er, chartered accountancy to lion
taming in one go.
You don't think it might be better if you worked your way toward lion
taming, say, via banking...

A day in a life of steam in my world:

I wanna play CS, I click steam, it connects, I click play games, I double
click on CS:S, 10 seconds later I am at the front end, 10 more, and I am in
game.

God...steam sucks so bad!!!1111ogmoneone

Btw just checked my Condition Zero and various old HL installations
Guess what?
They still have this "Do not automatically update this game". option
selected
Been like this since I installed Steam on my laptop - that'll be mid
december

My HL2SP is now switched to "Do not automatically update this game".
For five days now!
AcCeSsDeNiEd - 31 Mar 2005 03:57 GMT
Your old HL games probably don't need any updating.
I've never seen any updates for them for quite some time.
There might have been small updates, I probably missed them.

5 days is a relatively small time to wait for updates.

I know you will eagerly post your results if HL2/CSS does not swtich back to automatic updates, but
plz do not be one-sided. Do post your results too when it switches back to automatic updates.

FYI, I'm not the only one who is reporting this issue.

No worries, it's set for no updates until the next major update has
been downloaded to my PC
Let's see who's right and who's wrong
Shouldn't take too long

The no update has been reported for quite a while ago, and should have
been fixed also for some time ago
Time will tell :)

Just for the record
I have switched all items in the play games list to carry the "no
updates" falg
In order to avoid any confusion and possible flaming :-)

Let's see what happens
