Often enough you'll hear people say "Oh but game X was much longer - I
completed X II in a couple of days", and fair enough, often it does seem as
though games these days are over that much more quickly. Perhaps it's just
that we're better at them. Or perhaps not.

How about a pedometer mod. Just a small on-screen display that keeps track
of time elapsed and distance travelled? Yeah, okay, so vehicles will have an
impact, but still.

Anyway, I'm off to play the Serious Sam series through again - now they were
*huge*!

Personally fun is more important to me than the length of a game.
While there were a handful of moments I loved in HL, the bulk of it
was drudgery interspersed with annoyingly hard sections for me. HL2
might be a lot shorter but I enjoyed nearly all of it so overall I
would rate it much higher.

Heheh, yeah , Serious Sam is good fun and with the great feeling of
space it gives you something to do whilst heading to the next huge fight
:)

I'd kill for a game with the graphics and style of SS but more
puzzles/adventuring.

I believe they're still working on Serious Sam 2. There's a video file of
the engine capabilities floating around, though of course it doesn't give
much away in terms of gameplay.

Yeah, it sounds good, but I wonder if they will ever finish ... we all
know about these long engine redevelopments :)
