STEAM opponents and proponents either love or hate it with a passion.

STEAM has some deep-rooted social-economic psyche.

Proponents of STEAM (Valve's Fanbois) are mostly from middle or higher
social-economic stratas of the society, mostly children of rich parents,
they can afford a high-speed broadband internet and sophisticated
computers. They also benefit from highly more advanced technical
education from priveleged colleges and schools. Therefore they won't get
into much serious problems as with their parents money, they can change
their hadware components on the fly until all works fine (lucky
configuration, sooner or later they will change some hardware
combination that works).

STEAM bandwith won't be a problem for them as with their superior
broadband they don't feel the pain and frustration that other users feel
when having to redownload or update a corrupted installation on a 56k
connection.

Valve's fanbois usually are on high horse behavior ("because I can
afford " behavior). As being born rich, They have little or no
compassion nor empathy for people with limited economical ressources
and  technical knowlege who encounter the numerous problems with STEAM
and treat these poor fellows with contempt. They ridicule any user with
problem by  branding him "whinger" or "get a faster computer, get a
broadband" (only if he could) or downright impolite insulting remarks to
cut him off. This merciless pack attack pattern and bullying tactics are
very typical of Valve's fanbois.

They defending Valve as if their parents have a %50 share in the company
stocks and refute to see even slightest fault with STEAM and Source
games, everything STEAMY  is perfect (The Emperor's New Clothes
syndrome, a common delusion and hallucination about the coolness of
belongging to  STEAM bandwagon). They refuse to see the imperfection of
STEAM just to look trendy, cool and technically  sophisticated, just to
feel superior than people who can't (vanity syndrome).

STEAM games are designed with the high class, rich broadband Alienware
owner in mind, it's the games for the people who are born with a silver
spoon in their mouth.

STEAM actually is just another facet of our society where higher
socio-economic class bullys the under-dogs and always wins...because
they can.
