It was expected.  Played the first one?

Yeah but there was the fat baby Boss to kill on the last level at
half-life1,  I dont really think shooting snowglobes at an elevator counts
as a boss-level to end HL2

Certainly not. Looked to me like the end was a rush job.

I was GLAD there wasn't some worn out same old giant creature to kill at the
end that had a billion hit points. How tired is that?

Until the Xen level. That totally turned me off.

Aw man!  I thought the Xen level was really cool!  I liked it.   Though
I didn't really have time to miss it whilst playing HL2.  I only missed
it when I finally finished and was just sitting here, thinking about it.
"Hey, where was Xen?@?@"

The ending was incredible!

You people just are not using your brains on this one, think of that
ending citadel level more as an interactive cutscene which of course
doesn;t explain everything.
The Striders were in fact the final 'bosses'.

They're probably the sorts of people that don't enjoy a movie unless
it's got the same old predictable hollywood ending ;)

Yep, thats what I liked about it, that it wasn't predictable.

No, I thought the last level was very weak compared to what had gone before.
As someone else said - it smacks of a rush job.

I think it would have been good to have a climactic battle, something
difficult, whereas jumping up a few moving platforms then throwing the
globes was a bit wimpish.

And what about a blow job from Alyxx........... sheesh, now there was an
opportunity........
Jay - 27 Dec 2004 14:02 GMT
I didn't mind much not having a climatic battle in the end, as much as I
did mind its arriving so soon in the story, making this for a rather
short game :(
Not that there is reason not to expect a following HL3, but what I liked
about the ending of HL2 is that it gives me the impression that
there'll be a sequel, if feels that way based on the way things were left.

My impression anyway,

Jay

I mostly agree.  The ending did seem a bit anticlimactic but it was a
welcome break from the usual kill-a-hundred-minions-then-fight-the
big-boss-and-die-fifty-times-trying-to-find-its-weak-spot.
Where the game was lacking was that it didn't reveal any plot points
throughout the whole topsy-turvy mess.  In fact it really didn't have a plot
at all except go here, go there, kill things, try not to die.  Too many
unanswered questions.  Oh well, it was still a lot of fun and I'll play it
several times as I did the first HF.

Oh, I think some of the questions raised in HL1 were answered, just not
the way we'd maybe like.  Some old questions had multiple possible
answers.  I say this because I thought one thing in HL1 and was show
some of a different thing in HL2.
Examples:
What happens after Gordon kills the Nihilanth and Gman offers him a
job?:   He sleeps till well after Earth is invaded...oh...Earth *IS*
invaded!  Yeah... and he was in stasis for several years....gee.
Many old questions were answered with that one, like what happens to
everyone?
We see more info on Gman, there is not much, and still a lot of
questions, but we have more than we did before.
Do we go to war with the Xen?:  The Xen become our allies.
A lot of the old questions are moot now, their answers happened in the
interim period when Gordon was in stasis.  The major result is Earth is
wrecked, humanity is being exterminated, the Xen are being exterminated,
and we have major baddies behind that scene we haven't even met yet.
NEXT!
HL3... more questions answered with questions.... :)
McG.
