Did you take the video stree test in Half Life 2? It reminded me of a
ride, the haunted Mansion at Disney Land. Anyway, I got a frame rate
of 57.86.
Is that average I don't know?

Its actually a decent FramRate.  I have mines up at 98, but to be honest you
probably wouldnt see a difference between the two.

Anything above 30fps is considered playable.

And anything over 60fps, the human eye cant determine any difference

Well, to be fair the usual 'nonfact' is 25fps.

It's partially true; although the human eye doesn't really have a frequency ~25 Hz is
about the lowest you can get away with and still not look choppy.

it's subjective what people will put up with..  I used to play CS on a
56k modem (Pre 1100 netcode), and had no choice but to set fps_modem 30
.. I got along fine with the game running at 30fps, and in fact, I think
my AWP'ing l33tsk1llz were far better back then than they are now i have
broadband :-)  .. but if someone tried to make me play a game at 30fps
nowadays, i think i'd gag!

That was a good article.  It shows clearly several points I've seen
mention of in usenet for a few years.  It also explains some of the
reasons those points are valid :)
McG.   Good one!

Yup, good article.   None of it comes as any revelation to anyone who
has ever had to play with 30fps in counter-strike, or look at a computer
screen where the refresh rate in windows is 60hz. :-)

I think it's in Counter Strike...or at least that is where I saw it...

Launch Counter Strike from your wonderful Steam APP, and then it should be
one of the main options within the game.

The stress test isn't good for machine comparison, because it doesn't force
a graphic standard. Guess it's cool for tweaking your machine though. I get
~72fps at 1024*768 with everything on high except - water  = reflect world,
AA = 6 & AF = 8.

3Ghz P4
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
1024MB RAM

Using the latest omega  drivers which are based on the 4.10 betas. I guess I
should try out those 'magic' new ATI ones sometime.

Not usually one for comparing results like this cos it don't mean squat
when you're being shot to hell by the combine but was pleasantly
surprised when I ran the test for the first time at 1600 x 1200 with
everything turned upto the max = 84fps :)

That'll  do! lol

3.6ghz LGA775
2gb DDR2 Ram
X800XT PCI-E

Mind you I can still remember HL2 having a couple of minor stutters once
or twice.

If we carry on like this it'll probably end in some macho bull and us
getting our dicks out to measure...

A Tyan Dual Xeon thing with PCI-E graphics and some raid setup

But I have no dream

It is good to have a dream

I'll stick to dream

Can you expect any less? That's one hell of a system.

I got 45 fps with a GForce 5200 128 meg.

You see, you can play the game with a decent card. I'm happy as hell
with my $144 card. And I bet the game runs great on your PC too?
