HL 2's Source Engine

Lambda 236 - 24 Aug 2003 09:03 GMT I just wondered what the original Half-Life would look like in the Source Engine. Same format in terms of maps, humans, creatures, environments and what not. After having looked at the first rate game footage of HL 2 (Bink encoded), I just got to thinking about it. How much even more thrilling and appealing it would be to re-play the original game using the Source engine.
Jan Gruetz - 24 Aug 2003 12:25 GMT would be cool! maybe some mod team will do it? :):) would be great! of course it would be a LOT of work, because they would have to re-do ALL textures and objects... hmm, when you think about it, they`d have to do EVERYTHING from scratch to really make use of the incredible engine. even the sounds are propably to "bad" in the original ;)
would be great though to play the "old" halflife with almost photo realism and 5.1 sound ^_^

I've been playing it with my new machine with all the graphics turned up to max, and it's still the same old game. "Oh, yeah, turn right here, hit this switch, watch the headcrabs dropping out of the grate, stay over to the left, toss a grenade in here, save the guard, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah."
The really neat thing about HL was all the additional mods, maps, etc, that you had never seen before. Especially Sven Co-op, IMHO...
[What do you all remember about BlueShift, with it's enhanced graphics???]

acanofcant - 24 Aug 2003 16:01 GMT So you haven't seen the videos of Half Life 2 then?

I think the point is not just the updated looks, but the updated guts too... ie, more interactivity with the environment, even more intelligent enemies - possibly openning up new ways for some of the old puzzles...

Lefty - 24 Aug 2003 22:10 GMT No doubt someone will make the MOD regardless. And no doubt I will play it anyway.

That's so the Catley Entity doesn't get to hear it... the secret must remain with the Chosen Few.
