"Twenty years on, almost to the day, since the ground-breaking original
emerged on the BBC Micro Computer - and nearly a decade since the most
recent in the Elite series launched into deepest space - it somehow
seems an apt time to be asking David Braben about a new Elite game."

True, but HL2 is just a game. Elite 4 is Elite.

Yeah, true.

No need to hurry with it.  Hell, I still play Elite on my BBC B.  That and
Exile on the BBC kinda showed how to really produce a ground breaking game
that squeezed everything possible out of what memory and space was available
at the time in an efficient manner.  Would be good if all PC games followed
this plan nowadays.

I'd be happy if they didn't settle for mass producing sh.t :)
You still play Elite on the BBC? - man you are die-hard.

Well I still scamper back to it when I get shot to pieces in CS:Source,
getting better though...

To be honest though I moved forward in life and play it on an emulator since
moving a couple of months ago and really not being arsed to bother setting
it up again.  Where will this madness end hey.

Part the beauty of the original Elite was that it allowed you to "fill in
blanks" your self. Almost like reading a book compared to seeing a film. I
think that is very difficult to reproduce today.

The beauty:

The total freedom.
The combat was simplistic and fun.
The trading was intuitive and rewarding.
The scale was unique for it's day.
The gameplay was diverse.

And that's on the most basic level. A true classic amongst classics.
Maybe I should elevate higher up my top ten. Oh wait, I can't.

Everyone knows that was a classic film, not a classic PC game.

Well they went for the 'realistic' flight model. That's fine if you like
flight sims but personally I prefer the simple method.
