It's so close I can smell it!

Not that close:

"The fourth phase of the Half-Life 2 preload begins to Steam account holders
today.
This will allow users to download the majority of Counter-Strike: Source in
encrypted form."
Personally, I don't really give a monkeys chuffbox about CS:S :-(

My Steam no longer says "A lock copy of HL2 is know on your computer",
but says "HalfLife 2 is preloading 84%", but no transfer is active :-(

Don't fret. It's only CS:Source which is preloading and Half-life2 is
unlikely to be out for at least a month or two.

Why does it show up under the title "Half Life 2", why does it affect
the "Half Life 2" status and percentage.

Half Life 2 is not complete now anymore, and no game will play unless
complete. Why if I don't want to download CS:Source, only HL2 ?

All the "old" Half-Life mods had their own menu choice, why not
CS:Source...  HL2 is huge enough as it is :-(

Much the same way Half-life deathmatch was part of Half-life1. CS:Source
is the 'surprise' they had in store for Half-life2 customers to-be.

Like I say, they're integral. It is possible to play them separate but
if you buy Half-life2 through steam you will get CS:Source too. Where
you choose to 'activate' it is entirely up to you.

It will. You don't have to play it or even activate it. I think a
decision has been made somewhere that if you preload HL2 then you
preload CS:S. I imagine to the majority this is not a problem.

I'm not entirely certain about any of this but that's the way it
appears.

And besides, its not as if you can play Half-Life 2 at the moment anyway
:-)

Remember that TFC was always bundled with the HL1 patches... I guess
this is the same sorta thing really.
