This whole pre-load malarky just got a whole lot more annoying then, if it
goes gold it's rubber stamped and finished, so people getting it off Steam
could just get it there and then but instead we have to wait for them to
make CDs we aren't gonna be buying! Grr!

Where did you get that idea? Do you know this for sure? Gone gold "is
just a saying" for it being ready to duplicate and release - whether on
CD or digital network (Steam).

Please note that (a) the first preload is just that - the first one
(there will be at least 2) and (b) the game is NOT gold yet and (c) they
have prereleased the static load for people who wish to download the
game over the internet in order to reduce the stresses on the server
when the game is finally available for play. Even MS did that and they
have far more server resurce than Valve.

More an assumption really, CS:Source Beta was sat ready to go on my hard
drive but Valve still made me wait until they said it was ok to play it. I
just assumed that they would keep HL2 locked on the 'Coming soon' status
until the official release date comes. But if they let us play as soon as it
goes gold then thats great! It would certainly be an incentive to get people
to try Steam.

I preloaded last night just for kicks and this morning it said HL2 was
on my PC ready for release when they say go.

There will be more preloads before the game is released.

Highly unlikely, probably just a number of  graphics, sound and
texture files. The executable will certainly only be loaded when you
fork over the cash. Yet another scummy Valve half-truth for the
unwashed masses......since there is no public way of monitoring
exactly what is in any Steam download, you cannot directly
disprove the claim either..........

And I am sure that you are in the market for useful bridges too ?

Recently there was a post made on the HL2 Fallout Forums under Gabe
Newell's account claiming that Half-Life 2 would be going gold on
Monday. This post has been confirmed a hoax. An anonymous imposter
guessed Gabe's password, "gaben", and made the false claim. Valve has
confirmed that this is was a hoax on the Steam Forums.

I do not wish to fuel the fire of speculation, however, I was intrigued to
see this post on an ATI web site.

"As expected when we did an interview with Valve not long ago (we couldn't
say anything), the game will be going gold."

Why would Valve even say anything at the interview?  We can only hope they
really did.

Enormous Genitals - 30 Aug 2004 01:15 GMT
Remember... ATI paid Valve $6 million dollars.

Valve owes ATI a great deal, so I imagine they would be very cooperative
during an interview for ATI...

Yes... "the game will be going gold"...

Most games do at some stage.

That's what I though.  It's like saying, we have breaking news.  The game
will be released.  Or, the game will require a monitor.

DNF is already out
Just buy DOOM3 turn on the cheat code to get all weapons then blast
the crap out of zombies all the while say over and over  "come and get
some"

Works for me.

Ramzi made the post, I think I'll pay attention to it.  Come on with it!
