Yeah, just download steam. Its way better than the old Won system anyways
; )
I have just downloaded The steam program but when I get to the part about
registering the game it says the cd key I am putting in is already
registered to another player ???? could this be me from when I use to play
tfc through the won authentitication system ??
What do I do now, all I want to do is play tfc online !!!!!!!!!! :((((

I encountered the same problem and have no idea how to fix it. I decided
to just leave it until Half-life2 since I'll get a new key then.

That's just too much to cover in one post. Read this site then come back
and discuss:

Hmmmmm looks good !!!!!
So its a contiuation of HL so it should just follow on also I presume once I
get a copy of HL2 with the cd key I can then register the copy on my steam
account and start playing TFC online through Steam ??

That I'm not sure of. From a personal point of view Half-life2 will
allow me to play Half-life2 (obviously) and CS:Source instead of the old
fashioned CS.
From your point of view I'm not sure what it will allow. It may not
allow TFC at all, even though it should. However if TFC doesn't get
ported with the Source engine after Half-life2's released I'll be very
surprised.

Assuming you paid for the game and have a legal copy, It means that
someone else has stolen your CD Key... you'll not be able to play online
unless you've got another (legit) CD Key.

Yes its a legit game bought from pc world no one else has had access to my
disc so it is impossible for it to have been stolen !!!!!!!!!!!
So if I have the legal copy what do I do cos its not my fault is it possible
that the cd keys are some how duplicated for the manufacturers????

I had the same problem, briefly. However, I'd just entered my password
incorrectly....

It means that someone else has registered your HL key with Steam,
maybe a friend who has borrowed the game from you at some point or a
previous owner, if you bought a used copy.
The solution is to send Valve proof of purchase/ownership, so they can
remove the previous registration. Exactly how to go about this should
have been explained you when you received the error message. I know,
because it has happened to me.

Valve has known problems with the CD-key system, and has posted a
procedure.

You cna find various other troubleshooters available for the Steam engine,
if you do enocutner these other problems.

Exactly the same thing happened to me.
the whole Steam thing is putting me off buying HL2. I wonder if
Gameplay are still going to send me my Team Fortress 2 that I ordered
in 1999?
