I have a message stuck in TFC that says "Welcome to Poopshoots
Playground" and basically says press 1 if I agree to be scanned for
anti-cheating.  But I quit that server, restarted HL, and even rebooted,
and it's still there... how do I get rid of it???

Dunno about that, but I got a similar message when trying
to join one TFC server- and I could punch the '1' key till
the cows came home, and still nothing happened until I'd
finally get disconnected for failing to push a number (pre-
sumably, anyway- since I have no idea what would even
constitute a cheat in the modern TFC world, let alone be
*using* one). And my '1' key works just fine, so it was a
problem with their server, not my keyboard.

Oo - this sounds like a problem that I had once with TF1.5 when it was
first released....

I can't remember how the hell i fixed it though!  (It wasn't the server
... I think it was something in one of my CFGs ... because i copied
Iphi's config.cfg to my HL dir, and it worked OK..... then a while later
after i'd re-configured it to my settings again... i got the problem
again.  then a new patch came along and it stopped.)

I also remember it only ever happened on the map where you take your
flags to the 5 command points ... push i think it's called?

It might have been, but I'm not really sure just what the map
was at that point, when I tried to join. I do have a few old aliases
and binds in some of the configs in TFC, for things like 'jumpcrouch'
and the like. But I looked, and there was nothing that even used
the '1' key, for any bindings. Pardon my ignorance, but are there
any common old aliases or binds that are now considered 'illegal'?

No - I do believe it was a game bug and not that it was rejecting
anything on the basis of you cheating this was before the days when
these anti-cheat programs existed, and cheating wasn't actually much of
a problem ... this was the 1.1.0.0 patch  (I Remember thinking "This new
netcode has fooked up TFC") .. I never had any Aliases anyway ... but
your '1' key should always be binded to "slot1" .. anything else and it
will not register anyway.  (Just to double-check .. when the server
loads.. bring down the console and type "bind 1" ... just to check that
the binding is correct...)

Hmmm... so instead of just key '1', that server was expecting the
command-bind of 'slot1'. That explains it. I've remapped my key-
board so that most binds are on the keypad, and 'slot1' is bound
to the KP_HOME key.

What if you connect to a different server...?

You can't because you were, obviously, cheating.... Your only chance
for redemption is to burn your 'puter while chanting "Bill Gates is a
God" 500 times then  buy a 486dx2 with a DOS OS and upgrade, step by
step, up to current standards... Let that be a lesson to you.... :)

That's a coincidence!

I mugged this poor old granny on the way home from work yesterday,
knocked her chips out her hands, stole her purse and put the boot in as
I f*cked off.

Afterwards I went to the cash machine with her bank card and it said
"Please enter pin number" anyone know how to get rid of it?

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total
obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to
see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
