Looks pretty nice :)   I just wanna echo what the guy said at the end of
the hires trailer.. "PLEASE don't let this game suck!" ...  meaning that
I hope the SP mode isn't like the tediously dull shoot, run, kill from
Doom1 & 2 and Quake1 & 2,

Hey!  At the time, those games were great!  They got progressively more
story driven...well, a LITTLE more story driven by the time ya get to
Q2!

I saw the leaked alpha.  It was enough to see it WILL be a
shootfest....but not like anything we've ever seen before :)  You'll
have to play smarter.  Can't kill everything, so don't try it.  You ARE
alone amongst a world of monsters.  Make the best of it :)  There will
be far more interacting with the technology.  You'll have to explore and
think to survive.  I can't wait for it to finally get here so I can buy
it!!!!!

But, but, but, Serious Sam did shoot-run-kill sooo well. All I want is
it to be like Serious Sam, except darker and possibly with better
graphics (although it's not an absolute requirement)

I think it's going to be completely un-Serious Sam-like... from the
look of the various videos, Doom3 concentrates on very scary
situations, tension and then battle with big, tough, lone creatures
(not all the time, obviously, but that seems to be the aim - think
Alien rather than Aliens).

SS1 and SS2 had many, many enemies in each encounter, which were
normally clearly lit, with the only suspense being *How* many??!!?

Still, it's £24.99 including delivery from Gameloaded.co.uk, so I guess
it's a go... :D

Do you think they'll bother to colour it in before they release it?

I'm downloading it now...

But from the alpha, the colour is darker, muted....understated in most
areas, if you will indulge my observation.  Lends to the spookiness well
I think :)

Paul, did you set your display to monochrome or something?  ;)

Looks good!  :)

Well, to me, most of the walls and all of the monsters look silvery grey.  Only
the lighting and the weapon effects have any real colour to them.  The modelling
is incredibly detailed, of course, and perhaps the colour scheme is chosen to
emphasise the shadow effects on the musculature.  Or maybe the look has been
designed on a psychological level, subliminally eroding our feelings of
wellbeing and replacing them with despair and hopelessness (works for me).  When
we first saw these models a few years back, I always assumed they were going to
add a bit more colour later.  Obviously Doom Ashen is the new Quake Brown :)

Maybe you've begun the walk upon the road of a new term Paul.

Graphic fashion?

The movie didn't show some of the areas the alpha had.   Not all areas
are dimly lit, nor doom ashen, nor quake brown.   Likely most are
though.
