No, I'm not asking anyone for their key.
I have the Half-Life CD and at one time had it running on my old PC. I
now have a new PC and want to install but have lost the jewel case with
the key.
Is there a way to recover the CD key from the old machine, either from
the registry or a hidden file? I've tried searching the registry for
valve, half-life, and sierra and have found several entries, but none of
them looks like the CD key.
If there's no way to recover the key from an old install, what's the
cheapest way to get a key? Has anyone ever gotten a replacement key from
Sierra, and if so, what's involved?
Barring help from Sierra, or just assuming it's too complicated (send in
my original CD, wait ten weeks, etc), which of the many Half-Life
versions on the market should I get if all I want is a valid on-line
key? I see the following on Amazon and am unsure if any come with keys
for net play.
- half-life: game of the year edition
- half-life 2
- half-life: counter-strike
- half-life: blue shift
- gunman chronincles
- half-life: adrenaline pack

it is in the reg.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Valve > Half-life > Settings
it is the key in settings named "key"
If you do have to get a new one I here that blue shift is the cheapest.
I had a copy for 6 monthes b4 I learned you could use its key for normal
half life.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. It's not in the registry, so I must have installed Half-Life
before my last OS upgrade.
I'll buy a copy of Blue Shift and see if that key works.

You can get half-life from play.com for £7 ... or send off to Valve for
a replacement key.. both of these are cheaper than buying blue shift
(Which is £10 i think) ... although, i guess you do get the single
player addon (even if its a little short) .. plus the HD pack.

Blue Shift is $10 from Amazon - not a bad price. I'll get a new key and
a new mission.
