AGHL2 would be a pointless idea. There will be plenty of posts here on the subject of HL2 when it's out, and I don't think any of us are likely to migrate to another newsgroup after spending significant portions of our lives here (sad but true). This group has been able to adequately differentiate between posts on HL, TFC, CS, DOD, countless other mods, editing, *cough binaries*, monkeys, Beyonce, swordfish, Beyonce (sorry, I've been watching TOTP - blimey!), music, movies, other OT stuff and Beyonce, without getting any of these subjects confused (much). A new newsgroup will split the readership and knowledge-base, so you have to ask your queries in more than one newsgroup (particularly if they are fairly general within the HL milieu). There will naturally be more questions in here on HL2 than HL once it's out, but I think we'll still recognise a Blast Pit question when we see one, without the need for "HL1" in the subject line.

And if a second HL group is created, it takes a long time for all the various news services to accept it and propogate it to everyone... some services may never add it. I've seen this happen when other games had ng's that were needlessly split like that.
Also, the hard-core HL gamers that will really quickly learn the ropes of the new game, and know how to share that knowledge with others, particularly newcomers to the HL world, will be here... because they already *are* here, and have been for years. This is simply the place to go for such knowledge, and will continue to be, after HL2 comes out. Any upstart 'HL2' ng, would be instantly populated by milling rabble, in an ng with no history, no tradition, and no core knowledge-pool of old hands, like this group has. -Marshall

There are too many groups on Usenet as it is. If you can't think of a better reason than the above to create yet another one, then I don't see the point. We have been discussing HL, various mods, editing, other games and a staggering number of off-topic subjects here for years and people have been able to keep up just fine.

my comment stands.
at the moment, an AGHL2 is pointless, since most of the traffic is directed here

And now... Anders in off-topic shocker!
I noticed that Star Wars Galaxies was actually on sale in the shops here yesterday (well, one shop anyway). I'm not sure if this is part of an official release or if they were import copies. The extortionate price of 649 SEK would suggest import, since that is almost 200 SEK more than a normal PC game release. Is it out in the UK yet?

Gameplay (online retailer) are selling it from next Friday, but they emphasise that it is a US import, not the official UK version. I'm not sure what difference that makes to an online-only game. It costs ?40, which is high but seems to be typical for RPG-style games (NWN cost the same on release, and KOTOR will be ?40 too). The UK version of SWG is apparently not available until 26 December (er, when all the shops are shut and there's no post).

Could they pick a worse date to release a game??

Hmm, your Xmassy stuff must be different that ours--not a lot of "getting utterly wasted" at my family events, and callously returning bad gifts results in money left over to spend on new games. :-)

I'm pretty sure it's set for a December release.

Lefty - 25 Jul 2003 20:43 GMT Bad idea. Assuming we all went for it, we would of course have to read the same crossposted threads from lamers, cheats and lazyasses *twice*. Once HL2 is out, then it will be the prevelant game, and most people posting about HL1 will say HL1 or Original game, I would presume.

OOO, Slave, find out how to quick. At the risk of annoying a lot of people in this NG I have a plan.
First you open a HL2 NG and we can talk about how the game is ganna rule, how fast your computer is gonna hafta be ect..(by teh way, this will be to about 15 people who are on an ISP called flumpynet or something as they are the only one who wants it on the news server)
Then when we get stuck we can discuss between ourselves what to do, the good thing is, if all 5 of us (the other 10 are idlers) get stuck in the same place WE WILL ALL BE STUCK AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!! :oD
Also, we can post CD keys for the game...yeah...and everyone can play HL2 in the wurld, why don't we actually put the game up, make it a binary channel, and put the game on the NG in 1320 1.44meg RAR files
/me is full of ideas today
We can have our very own troll we can bait and if we don't know the answer to a question we can flame ppl
We can have our own FAQ like the HLFAQ only in this FAQ it will only go up to the bit were all stuck on and we will make things up when we don't know why HL2 drops to windows if your running it on a voodoo 3 with 8 meg of memory and a P100+ (that + makes all the difrence) and the PSU is wind up.
Waddaya say?
Failing that, why don't we just keep this NG. Where we have experts in all games (although mostly HL) who know a little about computers (Lo bold) and networking (someone else who knows about networking, probs bold again) and how to install HL2 in the first place. If we go withthis plan, mybe well get past that bit were all stuck on.
