I have played and enjoyed HL and many of it's mods for a few years.
What advantages are there to downloading and installing "steam?"
Note: I rarely go online to play since you guys constantly murder me so
quickly that I feel like a renewable target.
Thanks

Hehe good question
As I see it? None
But (and a BIG but) steam is the one an only source for any future
patches/updates etc
Currently HL on steam is version 1120
Most mod releases/updates supports both versions
In the future you will see enhancements not supported in 1110
Like eg detailed textures, firstly introduced in CZ
This is not supported in 1110 and is 1120 onward only
Valve is very eager to get everybody on the steam platform
Like the patch 1.1 for CZ
The only way to get this patch is through steam, and it includes lots of
goodies
Hell someone even argues that this update makes CZ an interesting purchase

If you're not going to play online, there's no reason to install Steam
at the moment.
