I'm looking for a program which will help clear the clutter on my
desktop. A change of themes would be nice too.

Oh and I'm cheap, so it would have to be free.

Anyone got any ideas?

Yeah. It was mostly for organization not so much aesthetics.

This doesn't meet your qualifications as it costs $20 US but others
may be interested. It's a very cool program with tons of user made

My start menu is just fine, just the way I like it. It's my desktop
which is a little cluttered. I don't like anything on my desktop apart
from the shortcuts to the games I'm playing.

It's really the only reason I came back. I knew that the only thing that

Try this:

http://www.desktopsidebar.com/

It adds a window that docks at the side of the screen.  You could put
all of your shortcuts into a folder and get Desktop Sidebar to display
then in a panel. It can display a lot more than than as well such as
system information and news feeds.

And it's free.

I'm at work right now, but for the record, my desktop consists of a nice
photographic background (usually culled from one of my own pictures,
http://www.karmaphotography.com), and two icons plus the recycle bin.
There's the WinXP taskbar on the bottom of the screen.  That's it.  :)

No, dude, it's Yorkshiremen who are dour - Welsh are passionate.

I wasn't teasing over your desktop - the colours and fonts are the most
horrible I've seen on a computer, honest.

Here's mine:

I'll post the Windows one as soon as I can get a screengrabber to work
:)

On a point of interest, the ICQ window is from Fire, the Mac equivalent
of Trillian - the Offline buddies list is my last ICQ list, from CS
bash days :) Good times.

I don't care, I like them, as I've said.

I'm very pleased for you:

I've got a new one now this is nice and bright for you. Not a great deal
of pink but maybe enough to keep you happy ;p

Pegasus Mail... Have you tried Thunderbird? Excellent mail-client and
totally free.

And what do you think of Far Cry, then? I haven't seen you comment
much on it.

To be honest, I don't actually use PMAIL for anything other than
bypassing my spamcop filter (like if i know that someone has sent me
something and it's waiting in my screaming.net inbox.. spamcop takes 20
minutes or so to pick it up and redirect it to my spamcop.net inbox
otherwise).. I compose all my messages, newsgroup and email, in
Nutscrape.. it works for me..  then again, it wouldnt hurt to try a new
one i guess :)    i'll check it out!

Really? I went through a phase a few weeks ago of posting about nothing
but farcry :)  ...  I think it's awesome.. although i've currently
paused playing it until my new RAM arrives (so far it's taken 2 weeks to
get here... various cockups at their end meant it was out of stock for
ages apparently) ... I'd like to be able to play it smoothly..   but the
SP is great (and -very- scary at times).. and the MP would be great if
it worked properly.. Again, i've paused playing that but because i'm
waiting for a patch to sort out all the niggling netcode issues..  We
must, must, must have a FC bash at some point :)
