The bad: I wont have time to play (or even install it) before I have to leave for work. :(
Can't wait to try out the level editor, though.

Please disable all etc etc and restart the game"
According to Ubisoft UK, that means any DVD copying programme must be uninstalled. Bloody cheek.

I seem to be okay, it installed without any problems and plays fine. I had a quick go at it and it looks gorgeous. I don't have any serious DVD copying software installed though, just DVD Decrypter and Daemon Tools.
Out of curiosity, what DVD copying software do you have installed? I've been looking for something that's easy to use.

1. AnyDVD - removes all bothersome region coding, macrovision, etc 2. DVD Shrink allows you to decide on the levels of compression for each part of a DVD, so that you can fit it all on a single disc 3. Clone DVD - does exactly what it says on the tin, no fuss. Will take the reduced files from (2) and write to a blank.
Alternatively 4. DVD XCopy - for when you absolutely, definitely have to have every last second of every scene, this will split the DVD across 2 blanks.

DVD Shrink and latest edition of 'Nero' (free months trial, includes DVD burner),
DVD Shrink removes the region codes?...

Bloody cheek. oh that is just dumb.. and what is to stop people from making 10 copies and then uninstalling the copying software afterwards? .. Some people just don't "do" common sense do they? ... I'm certainly not removing my region-free DVD program just to run farcry.. I'm not too sure if i want to get this game now if it's gonna do dumb stuff like that :-/

I'm not too sure if i want >to get this game now if it's gonna do dumb stuff like that :-/ It sounds like it has SecuRom software on the discs. The bad thing is I've seen tons of posts from people who don't even have any kind of 'copying' software and they still have problems. UT2004 is having the same problems. I just looked at the bottom of the box for FarCry and it has a warning about it. It says the protection might conflict with some disc and virtual drives. They need to find a better system. I guarantee if you look on some 'warez' site, there are probably already copies of the game. :-(

Far Cry Fan maybe - 27 Mar 2004 10:59 GMT Just bought 2 copies today...
totally into the graphics, reviews, gameplay, style and general aura about the game.
However....
CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD/ emulation software and re-start the game.
Unless there is a conflict with the game ( and I really wonder what the heck this game is doing to form a conflict ), who's to say, I don't generate my own legitimate DVD's and copy them for my clients regularly???
If I don't sort this out tonight, I will be returning my and my friends 2 copies back to Harvey Norman tomorrow, getting our money back and bagging the sh.t out of the "moral" high-ground attitude taken by these tossing developers/publishers.
Absolutely nothing about having DVD copiers on your system or on the box of the game... nothing in system requirements
AND!!!!!
I don't even have a f.cking DVD rom nor burner drive.. seriously, go f.ck yourselves with that stupid attitude.
Absolutely rediculous.

I guess that's the most annoying part of these pathetic attempts at copy protection. The crackers and the warez-monkeys can get past such restrictions mere hours after a game is released, but the majority of players, who just have the simple desire of being able to play a game out of the box without hindrance, are left floundering and frustrated.

Richard & Sarah Struthers - 27 Mar 2004 18:54 GMT I've just installed with Virtual CD (the German program)
Works fine straight out of the box. So yet another protection protocol that irritates the hell out of some people but doesn't stop copying.

What I have noticed from reading various gaming groups is that copy protection seems to be more of a problem on US releases than European ones, classic example was Broken Sword 3 all the people compaining about the Star Force protection were people with US copies, which suggests to me US publishers are more paranoid.

Absolutely. I'm a professional photographer and videographer, and I sure hope the game doesn't conflict with any of the software installed on my computer that I use for those purposes - all of it completely legitimate and used for legitimate purposes, and none of which I would consider uninstalling and doing without. This is a completely unreasonable response to the very real problem of piracy. I'm all for companies trying to protect their copyrights, but not when it intrudes on the fair use of legitimate consumers.

This may sound like a bit of a preach .. well i guess it is.. but it's not intended to start off "Another steam flamewar" .. but I think this highlights one of the areas where Steam brings us something positive... (yes, it doesnt solve the problem of people playing with offline mode, but it sure makes it difficult to pirate and play online with steam).
Steam protects the gamer's CD Key by completely eliminating the need for the CD key once the gamer has registered online with the SteamID system... but also, they can update the platform any time they like, which makes it very difficult for someone to write a hack or crack that doesn't become obsolete within a very short period of time. (The same sort of system can also be used to stop cheaters in their tracks too)
Hopefully this means that valve won't be worrying too much about CD copiers when they release HL2 :)

The game itself is very, very good... I would say 'awesome' or 'brilliant', but I'm afraid I would sound like a fanboy or something. It has atmosphere in chunks, marvellous AI, great physics, beautiful graphics, etc. Easily the best SP experience since HL.
I actually bought my DVD drive just for this (and UT2K4) and it was well worth it. :D

I don't really get why so many seem to look forward so much to FC multiplayer. The official forums have been stuffed with people complaining about how it wasn't what they expected, that it was too simplistic, etc. For me, the attraction of FC was always the SP game. For MP, I have UT2K4.
