Hey, just downloaded the sweet half life mod. Stuck on a train. Every
time I shoot down an apache helicopter, the announcer comes on saying
to stay clear of the door on th platform, and then the train and I
both blow up. It keeps doing that.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how to solve it?

Where do you get the sweet half life mod from?

You can get it here:
http://www.fileplanet.com/files/110000/110479.shtml

I don't know what you're doing wrong though, Muscle Man...
I usually leave the train through the hole blew in the rear by the Apache,
then avoid the half dozen or so mines laid across the track. Might be a
glitch for you.
Tried reloading an earlier point? Do you have the high definition
pack installed? It causes some issues, never heard of this one before
though.

Think so. How'd you make it across the tracks? I kept getting
electrocuted, plus the train blew u panyway and killed me, then gave
an "idle 2" error. It stopped after another re-install. Weird.

I notice parts of the walls, train, etc keep disappearing too.

Yeah, same issue.

No unsinstalled it. But thanks for the reply. I think I'll just keep
reinstalling when it glitches. BTW, andy other good half life mods out
there? What is They hunger about?

You're not using DX are you?  If so, definately try OPenGL video mode
instead.

> What is They hunger about?

It's about zombies (and zombie headcrabs :p)
One of the all time best.
Check it here;

How do you do that? I just installed a new Video Card, a Ge Force 400
64 mb. I think it's just DX right now. how do I get opengl to work?

In the starting screen of Half-Life or any MOD, click on "configuration",
then click "video"
then click "video mode"
here you can select either D3D, OpenGL, or software mode.
You can also set your desired screen size here.
Leave the video driver set to "default".  You only want the 3DFX mini-driver
if you are using a VooDoo video card.

OpenGL is generally considered as the most trouble free video mode for
Half-Life.
D3D has many bugs and glitches that occur in Half-Life.
Last but not least, software mode looks like crap, but should be used to
solve problem areas
when your game becomes unplayable due to video issues crashing your game,
etc.

A good many questions about Half-Life can be answered by reading this;
http://home.centurytel.net/Lefty/HLFAQ.zip
It's a FAQ which was written and maintained by a guy (read; Guru) named HQH.
He used to frequent this group once upon a time.
Put the FAQ somewhere on you hard drive for future reference, it explains
a good many things.

Appearantly there are some bugs in the game which may occur for some people
and not others, depending on your hardware configuration.
I luckily never had any propblems with it until I forgot to uninstall the HD
pak and Firewater had to bail me out.
Anyway, read here for further information;

http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~ks_wca/home_fm_no.htm

If you have trouble understanding the site, keep in mind the SHL development
team is a combo of French and Japanese, so it's quite easy to get lost in
the translation.

ALSO!:   If you're going to use the OpenGL render mode, you should install
one of NVidias driver sets to get the best working OGL installed
(opengl32.dll, varies widely between Windows drivers for the card and
Nvidias drivers, Nvidias work for me, Windows don't).  I am happily able to
play HL 1.1.1.0 in either DX or GL now.  The one bad glitch I find with GL
is ALT-TAB'bing to the desktop and then going back into the game.  This
doesn't work for me.  The game screen is either completely black or just a
jumble of corrupted textures going back in.  Other than that one thing HL
looks excellent in OpenGL or DirectX.

BTW, I finally followed your instructions. How beautiful and different
it looks now! I am having problems following simple procedures now. I
can't judge distances! It is so very beautiful!

OpenGL was a greAT idea! I thought there was more to it. I had to
install a driver or something. My Nvidia TNT 2 32 mb cArd wouldn't do
it. The Ge Force does and it's fantastic! Gonna try op force next,
then blue shift too!

Thanks!

just a quick note - the Nvidia TNT2 does do OpenGL (OpenGL was one of
the big selling points of the TNT when it came out)...   but since youve
got a GF card now, i guess it doesnt matter :)

Oke, then it probably wasn't working due to problems with its
installation. I had a friend build my comp. e prolly did something
wrong.

GeForce kicks butt by comparison. Whats the best Vid Card for Games?
The best current game out too? Is it Castle Wolfenstein 3d?

A japanese site. I reloaded the program and for some reason it
stopped. Is this mod really buggy?
Lefty - 20 Mar 2004 13:11 GMT
Not normally.
But it was made for older OS's, older vid cards, and I think it was made for
the previous version of HL, too.

Did you read up for any possible tips at the author's (team) site where you
got it?

no. It was in broken english and sounded like it was made pre-release.
The other site I had for it redirected me to a japanese anime site,
and didn't have anything
but the download for it.

This mod is really good, despite the problems. I liked the ideas with
the new weapons and the different aliens. I am in Xen now, anxious to
see how it pans out.

The japanese site wasn't helpful.

It did come with an html spoiler that has helped a little.

Hey Muscle Man: I am trying to get through this mod and have had lots of
help fro Lefty and others. Didn't have any trouble with the helicopter
except the same situation you noted that the scenes would disappear such
that I could see what's on the other side of walls. But it didn't cause any
hanging up (freezing?) that I am getting now. So I think this is a buggy
mod. But an very excellent one as well. You are far from the end and keep
trying to fix it cause its worth it.
They Hunger is terrific. Starts out a bit lame, but its a great mod.
   Good luck.

The only thing I can suggest is that you stay in the forward-most part
of the train before it explodes.  You might even try crouching behind
the back of one of the seats.  Failing that, it might be the High
Definition Pack that's causing the problem--uninstall it and try the
above
