advice on graphics card

ive come accross a geforceFX5600 256mb graphics card
for ?85....unfortunatley im no whizz kid on graphics cards.
could any one advise me as to whether or not this is a
good graphics card? and worth spending ?85?????

Well thats the exact same one I have: nVidia GeForce FX 5600XT 256MB, and I
havent had any problems with it. Its a good card, and Prince of Persia -
Sands of Time looks AMAZING!!

I dont know anything about the price though, coz i didnt buy it separately -
it came with my machine.

Have a look around for the Raedon, some people say its better than GeForce,
but thats just their opinion.

That's not he "exact model".
XT from nVidia is actually their "MX" type brand. Named such because ATI
has an XT line which is their high end models.
Here's a head to head for all brands\models.

nVidia comes in 4 levels. For 5600 it's:
lowest to highest, FX5600XT, FX5600, FX5600 Ultra and FX5600 Ultra
FlipChip

ATI brands their 9600's, lowest to highest
9600SE, 9600, 9600Pro 9600XT

Confused yet? :-\

For nVidia, XT means eXtra Trashy. For ATI XT means eXtra Teriffic
For ATI SE means "Sucky Edition"

The general consensus at the moment is to ditch Nvidia and get an ATI,
but the FX5600 seems a good card for £85. Although I suggest you do
some review reading before you buy.

Yep, sure, but there's no difference in power between the 256mb and
the 128mb model, so I'd recommend the cheaper one. Certaintly try to
make sure there's an "ultra" tag on the end of it, if you can find at
128mb ultra cheaper than the 256mb, I'd suggest that instead. And if
you can find another £10, get a 9600pro (unless its made by
powercolour), it's a much better card.

the 9600 pro from Ebuyer for ?90 is much better value
