Have you been back to the control room (where the dying guard lies) and
tried to use the switch again ?

if you mean the switch to turn the turn tabler it does not turn the track
power on.

I was thinking the track power would be on when you activate the
generator (in order to kill the gargantua)... hm, maybe I'm wrong...

You can't activate the generator, or kill the red nose, without tackling
the grunts, activating the pump, and turning on the power (which opens the
gate to get to the generator). So he must have done that bit. If the
generator is on, so should the track power. You might have saved the game
at the wrong point. My memory is hazy but there might be more than one
switch? There's one switch to move the track but isn't there another in the
room for the power? Dunno.

You can kill the Garg without turning on the power, I usually do it with
grenades. Can't be arsed to run to the generator;)

Usually ten. It doesn't matter if they are the hand held ones, or the ones
from the machine gun, five of each will do it. Makes life so much easier:)

There is another room across from the switch room.  You activated power to
the switch but not to the tracks.  The area you have to enter to activate
the track power is in a room off of one of the main corridors leading from
the big area where that huge freaky monster was (or is).  Just run around
out there and look for a door.

Okay, you broke the box stuck between the pump. You pressed the button in
the room the next floor up to activate the power. (There would have been
lots of electrical arcs). You went back up and killed the Garg. How did you
kill the Garg? Did you get him to chase you down the long corridor and fry
him between the 2 generator things? If not, there is a switch on the back
wall behind them that needs flicking on.

Go to the train, jump on it and press use. Drive it onto the turntable.
Rotate it using the switch in the control room. And that is everything. If
you have done all this and it still doesn't work, then I don't know what it
is. There are no more switches on this level.

The grid blocking it will disappear automatically once everything is done.

If the grid is there blocking one of the tunnels, you need to get through it
to turn the generator on. You must have missed something otherwise the grid
disappears.
So once again, from the top...

Aah bugger it, here's a link to a walkthru for the Power Up level. Be sure

Maybe he ran into the dreaded "barrier fence won't open" bug.  I seem
to recall this problem cropping up occasionally in the past; in fact,
it happened to me during one of my play-throughs.  No matter what you
do, the bloody fence blocking your way to the double-generator room
won't open.

I've never heard of that one. Maybe patching it will rectify it.

If memory serves, it had something to do with the Gargantua.  If you
killed him before finishing all the switch sequences, and he wasn't
there to follow you to the generator room, the gate wouldn't open.  Do
you have a saved game at a point before you killed him?

The gate not opening has happened to me only once before and the red nose
was still alive. I think it's too do with trigger points and the associated
action(s)/event(s) not completing - possibily because of saving the game at
the wrong point in the sequence. Like stopping a heart by thumping the
chest at the wrong point in the cardiac cycle. I think most people would
instinctively same their game after activating a button/lever.

Allrighty - might be one of the nastier "known" bugs in HL
It's a bit technical but here goes

You have a couple of methods getting the NPC's to move around a bit
One is scripted sequences, the other is setting a path for the NPS to follow
and the last is info nodes spred around letting the NPC track you down

Now when you have a monster setup to follow a path for a sequence and you
save the game during this event
When reloading the NPC looses the path - all gone
Could very well be some trigger not being activated by mr Rudolf himself

I have been messing around getting an apache to spawn on a map of mine
No luck due to this error - as the apache needs to have a path (in air) to
follow in order to behave as a - well an apache should behave :-)

Maybe worth noting that if you rotate the turntable before the power goes
back on (as I did accidentally the first time through) then you're stuck,
AFAIK, there's no way to get the train onto the turntable, so you'll have to
restart the level.

Erm- it's been a very long time since I played that level, but you don't
have to ride the train to finish it.
All you have to do once the door is open is walk along the RH side of the
tracks, jump across to the ledge on the RH side at the end, and walk behind
the tanks.  No crashing, falling into radioactive goo, or jumping from crate
to crate needed.

Nearly every level in HL that has a train in it can be completed without
ever getting on it, as a matter of fact.

Heh. I guess that depends on your definition of fun- for me, it was more
enjoyable to sneak around on foot, and figure out alternative ways to finish
levels.
Same as in RTCW (single player)or Max Payne, I'd rather sneak, hide, and
take the bad guys out with a sniper rifle...

I thought you needed to get the train running to smash through
the concrete blocks which block your way in order to get to the
next level.
