Hi all.
I've just 'upgraded' to steam. And I've just done a search for steam
DoD servers that have the secure only option set. Not one out of 270
servers examined was listed as anti cheat enabled. Not one.

WHY?
</fx>
How often do I hear (read) players in games saying so and so is
hacking or so and so is aimbotting. Often it's sour grapes I know,
but not always. And not one server seems to be set up to use the anti
cheat tech Valve have put in place. I don't understand it. Anyone
else have a thought? Any admins read this group and care to explain
their reasoning?

Not sure.. what browser were you using to view servers? Because if I
view CS servers in ASE then a very large number of servers come up as
using VAC... perhaps they use Cheating Death instead? (cheating death
is incompatible with VAC)... or maybe your filter isn't working right :)

There was a new VAC module released a few days ago (23-24/01/04), of
course this means all the servers out there using VAC have to download
the new module, putting alot of preasure on the 'secure servers'. If a
gameserver can't contact the secure server(s) it will drop out of
secure mode and carry on, it will attempt to download the module on
each subsequent map-change until it succeeds. It's not particularly
unusual for a server to spend a map in "secure 0" mode after a VAC
update.
Sometimes of course the secure servers fold under the load and then
/none/ of the gameservers are VAC'd. In all fairness I have to say that
I haven't read of (or noticed) any such downtime recently.

Hi. Follow up.
I think it was zone alarm stopping ALL searches. My fault for
shouting too quickly.
