I'm trying to keep my nearly-silent system, well, nearly-silent. I'm
looking to upgrade my GeForce 440 with a faster card that can play
Half-life and Doom3 well, but looking for something quiet, preferably
without a fan.
Any experinces out there?
Athlon 2400+XP, 512MB.

Unless you use a heat pipe, or have some form of liquid cooling employed,
you will not find a card without a fan that will do HL2 (or any of the newer
games).

I'm quite happy with my Sapphire card ATI 9600XT from
the ultimate series. Uses a heatpipe, hl2 and doom3
playable at 800x600 or 1024x768.
Nowadays there is also a card like mine with
ATI 9800pro.

Lots of people aren't fans of the NVidia FX series or the PNY GeForce
cards that fall apart. I'm sure you could find one of those.

Why would anyone want to play Doom 3?

Just to let you know, I'm using a GeForce 4 card and i can run Half Life 2
in the highest resolution on my LCD monitor! Looks great!! :) I havent
experienced any slow down or skipping like I did with Far Cry...maybe
because that game sucked! lol

Without going liquid cooled, a heat pipe is about your only other
option.
