People have been having texture loading problems which cause sound
stuttering and fps problems. Steam is not downloading the patch, and doesn't
f.cking work half the time anyway. That patch evidently causes problems for
people that do not have the stuttering problem in the first place.
Obviously, Valve needs to provide these patches as downloads to manually
install, or NOT to install. You can set steam to not auto update, but then
you may miss important patches that need to be installed...
Where can i manually download the stuttering patch, and why in hell is
everyone having so many problems with steam?

Just seen this thread. Would seem to make more sense if the patches
were listed on Steam and you could click them. I've tried restarting
Steam (have no idea if my definition of 'restarting Steam' is the same
as Steam's) and had zero patches updating my version. I still got the
terrible stuttering sound. Would have made more sense had the game been
delayed and tested on as many PCs as possible to see how common the
stuttering sound was and then rectified it before the game's release.
Seems a bit unfair for fans to dish out the cash and then struggle to
rectify the problem. I can't even restart Steam so I am Mr Thicky when
it comes to all this. Talk about giving a blind man a flashlight - heh

My guess is :

(1) Prevent Steam from loging in automatically.

(2) Reboot. (the steam icon shouldn't be in the tray anymore)

(3) Install the patch (and pray god).

It should work that way.

Luck !

Thanks for the reply, Eric.

I still get a bit of stuttering sound, particularly when there is more
detail on screen and someone is talking. However, on medium resolution
setting the sound is perfect. Oddly enough, I actually prefer the
medium res to that of high res. High res makes the game look too sharp
and more like a game. The slightly duller, softer edges of medium
resolution make the game seem more real to me. :) Sometimes, too much
detail makes the edges look too serrated.

If anyone has just bought the game or plans to and has the stuttering
sound problem, I recommend switching to medium screen resolution.
Should do the trick.

With some games, I entirely agree. Max Payne II looked much better at
lower res with AA, as did Theif 3.
