If steam will not run unless you are connected to the net, there is a box in settings/accounts that says "do not store information on this computer" or something similar. See if this is checked or unchecked. Uncheck it. You will be able to play offline when steam next launches. Thank you! I can play inn offline mode. But why cant I play hl2 without starting steam. its always trying to connect, and I push "offline mode". We`re all in the same boat. Email valve and ask.... :) Not sure but I think if you follow the previous help's you can play offline but you must use the disk in your dvd drive. I don't even understand why everyone is bitch'n about HL2. All I had to do was wait for over a year to get T1 speed, then upgrade my PC for the second time in 6 monthes and pay $89.00USD for the game. I think the total came to $60.00 a month for the T1, new motherboard and Celeron D chip (same as pentium 4 chip) was $434.99 >>>this includes my Nvidia Gforce5200 video card that is necessary and 512mb of RAM. All in all to play HL2 it came to nearly $800.00USD. But now I can play on/off line. GOD I'M HAPPY!!! Rio >> Thank you! I can play inn offline mode.
