I am getting an error message when loading Episode 1 that states "hl2.exe
has encountered a problem and needs to close". When I click on details, it
states an Error Signature with AppName:hl2.exe and ModName:datacache.dll

I am able to play Lost Coast and the full version of HL2, but this error
message only happens when loading Episode One.

I can't play the game! Is there a fix for this?

You can try adding -dxlevel 81 to the launch settings.  That way no HDR,
but you should be able to finish the game.

Hey, It worked! I have to change my display back to 1024 x 768 after the
game loads, but it's a small price to play to be able to finally play the
game!

Are there any other graphics effects sacrificed, in this particular game, by
shifting down to DX 8.1?  Just curious.
