Unique Jumps Issue

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem I am having.  I am
going through the walkthrough trying to get 100% and after completing the
unique jumps on the first two islands I should have completed 12 out of 20
jumps.  However, the PS2 isn't registering one of the jumps so it says I
have only completed 11.  I've gone through the jumps in Portland 3 times and
the jumps on the second island twice and still to no avail.  Every jump I
redid gave me the slow motion scene so I am confident that I have actually
gotten the Unique Jump and the money for each one.  Has anyone else had this
problem or am I missing something?

I had this problem, the jump by the Malibu Club just wouldn't bloody
register. Only way I got around it was to re-start the game. Fortunatly, I
hadn't progressed too far into the game so it wasn't too big a deal

I had this too; the unique jump near the southern-most pay 'n' spray in
Vice City East where you go up the stairs wasn't registering. Funnily
enough, as there's two to be done in sequence, it would register the
second and not the first, making the game unwinnable.

In GTAIII, the Callahan Bridge jump to land between the two elevated
bits of road didn't register until I crashed spectacularly and landed on
my roof, although I believe if you (only just) hit either side of the
bridge it won't register.

You might have no choice but to start a new game. Unless you kept a
record of which jumps you'd completed, it's difficult to tell.

Cheers,
Rob

Careful.  You get the slo-mo cinematic even when the jump isn't good enough.
Seeing that effect does NOT mean you completed the Unique Jump.  Look for
the big message that you completed it, and then double-check your stats.

This is why I always recommend doing them sequentially and making SURE you
complete one (or write it down somewhere that you didn't) before moving on
to the next one.

I'd say you missed one of the really stubborn ones.

Here's a thought.  Re-start the game and find the stubborn ones and how to
get them to register.  Then re-load your game and try those specific jumps
again.

Is there a way to tell if a specific jump has registered? I've taken
some jumps here and some jumps there. And haven't tracked which ones I
completed successfully.

If I go back and try to do them with a list - is there a way to tell
the difference between not doing the jump properly vs. doing a jump
that's been repeated?

Uh-oh.

Not that I know of.

Not that I know of.

The Unique Jumps are a royal pain.  R* really needs to improve some things
about them in the future games -- if there's any reason to even keep them:

 (1)  It would be nice to have SOME way of telling where they are, without
a guide book.  A small icon, or something (similar to Rampages). (You'll
NEVER find all the GTA3 and VC ones just by chance.)

 (2)  The indication of success for a jump needs to be even clearer.

 (3)  We need a way of telling if specific jumps have been completed.

Actually, ALL of these could be solved by a Rampage-style icon that
disappears only when the jump has been completed.

I'm not convinced we even NEED the Unique Jumps.  We do enough wild-a.s
stunts on our own.

I guess I wouldn't mind keeping them in, but it would be nice to know
somehow if you've completed it or not for sure.  In icon of some kind is a
good idea; I like it.

What might make more sense is if the icon appears only AFTER you've done the
jump, sort of like a flag saying "I was here".  That way they don't make it
an obvious giveaway as to where all the jumps are.  (They're supposed to be
hard to find so you try to do crazy stuff all over the place.)  If a flag or
other marker appeared at every spot where you'd done a jump before, it would
go a long way towards making that whole process alot easier without being a
total spoiler like the rampage icons are.  Even better is if the icon that
appeared was actually something you could USE, like a cop bribe or
something.  That would give real incentive to actually do the unique jumps,
whereas now the only real reason to do them is for 100% or bragging rights.

That's a fantastic idea!  It's kind of like the unique jump on Portland
Island near the water.  It has a concrete ramp that sends you over the EL
Train track and lets you collect a police bribe(?) while you're doing it.

Is Rockstar listening to these great ideas?  They should be.

That's a big part of the problem, though.  I'm thinking of jumps like that
one on somebody's back steps on Star Fish -- things you'd never think to
try.  There are a zillion places you'd try first.  I still maintain that no
one can find all the VC Unique Jumps without a list of where they are.

And then there are the jumps that you have to do 20 times just to get them
to register.  If you didn't KNOW it was one of the Unique Jumps, you'd
quickly conclude it was not.

I do like the idea about a useful icon, however.  Perhaps it could be one
color before you complete it and another after (when it becomes useful as a
bribe, or whatever).

How about a cheat code, that allows you to see where the unique jumps are?
Whether you choose to use the cheat at all, or save the game with the cheat
active, is entirely up to the player. That way, you keep the functionality
of the existing game and (once you've found as many jumps as you can be
bothered looking for) you have the tool available for achieving 100%.

I do like the idea of a reward for bothering with the USJs.

Just get GTA Lights mod, which does exactly that.  Only works if you're on
PC, though.  No good for PS2/X-Box.

Lights works for rampage and hidden package locations.  I don't think that
there is a unique jump component.  I wish there were, though.

I really enjoyed the jumps but I agree with you that they could be marked on
the map. I got 99% on my first run through and had missed one jump. I don't
agree with the idea that there is a bug but I tried each of the jumps three
times to try and find which I had missed. (I had used a map and tracked
them) but I couldn't find it. Had to replay the game (oh no what a shame) to
get the 100%. The game could lose some aspects though especially the f**king
taxi missions.

If you did the jumps, then you did the jumps.
You're not responsible for program bugs.
