John Smith - 06 Nov 2003 20:41 GMT is it possible to remove the blood from the game? and even to remove violence out of it? My 5 year old son likes to drive around & discover things, but I think its to violent for him...
thanks,
Jan
Defranco71 - 06 Nov 2003 21:16 GMT Yeah, maybe he should just drive around and pick up hookers instead.

GTA games are based around stealing cars, killing people, running people over, shooting people, etc etc..... The lack of blood is neither here nor there!..... A child needs to be able to reason fact from fantasy, actions and consequences, right from wrong......and unless your child is freakishly advanced at the age of 5 I would say a big NO to GTA full stop...... There are tons of games out there MUCH more suitable.....I mean would you buy an 18 certificate video or dvd (ie with loads of gore, killing, sex etc) and let your child watch it? Even if you kept on saying "Its ok its not real" you would have one seriously head f.cked 5 year old.....same goes for computer games.......Just talk to those 2 kids in the USA who killed people after playing GTA......and then blamed their parents for letting them !

No I dont want violent movies for him, never, movies are for him much more like 'the real world', im shure they have much more influence then whatever what game.
The 2 kids in the USA: killing people has in my opinion more to do with a sick society than playing a game. "Remember those man who killed people after drinking a cup of coffee"
thanks for your comments,

Some censored foreign versions have limited violence and such, but the better answer is to just decide to let him play, or get him another game.

David B. - 08 Nov 2003 03:06 GMT Midtown Madness II is a fun racing game, no violence other than ramming traffic.

Zombie Elvis - 09 Nov 2003 23:39 GMT > thats right, any suggestions for another non-liniear game? PS2? If so (and it may be available for other platforms anyway), my 5 yr old nephew learned to steer for the first time by playing Simpsons Road Rage in a non-mission mode. I forget the proper name for this mode, but it's clearly listed on the menu.
It has characters the kids can relate to, it's fairly non-linear driving around a city map picking people up and dropping them off, and if you can put in a few hours as a loving father, playing through mission mode to unlock more characters, he'll get hours of easy entertainment without any health level or time limits that can bring on 5 yr old frustrations.
btw - it was frikken funny watching the kid try to steer the on-screen cars by turning the entire controller, and when that wasn't turning quick enough, twisting his entire body :-) Priceless.

Such profound advice. You must be Mormon.

1. hide the gta cd when he's not at school
2. take a lighter and melt the cd into a little pool of nothing... this would be the only way to remove violence from gta
3. (hopefully you're kid isn't too bright yet for this one) tell him it's not blood... it's ketchup... and the messy people sleep a lot
4. go for another game all together... maybe driver would be good... it's been a long time but i don't remember any violence or language in it... maybe the cutscenes were the exception... and the cops on that game might just teach your son to be a good driver and follow every little traffic law by the time he's 7... on the other hand... have you tried the simpson's driving games? i haven't tried the new one yet but the last one was ok, especially for someone that young
and like someone else here mentioned... next time you might wanna have a look at the rating... 5 years old doesn't quite fit into 18+ category

He's very aware of the rules in our (dutch) society
But, for shure, it will be better to find a game with the same sort of gameplay without violence.
thanks,

Kids who are 5 and 6 don't have a sense of sexuality...
I think my first sexual experience is when I was 8 or 9 watching that episode of the Flintstones where Wilma and Betty try busting into Fred and Barney's lodge, wearing disguises, and end up being initiated... All that ouching and owing they were doing while getting spanked gave me a massive hard on... Now you all know why I'm so f.cked up... ;)

Leisure Suit Larry was a legend! Some enterprising people should put that under the Renderware platform, with improved graphics and larger game world. And bugger M rating - go for a full-on R rating or X rating. The game is perfect for a hilarious adult gaming experience of the 21st century.
Merlin Amusements - 10 Nov 2003 00:51 GMT First home computer game I ever played to the ending. Legend, indeed! Mike

Sierra have maintained Larry for over 15 years. Bloody good show.
Unfortunately the Ultimate pleasure pack is out of print,
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00003OPCR/ref%3Dnosim/sierra04-20/102-36 82563-1960913
But the Collection is available 2nd hand:

People are asking very steep prices for the sets though.

It's not a game you want a 5 year old to play... Even if he is just driving the car around how about if he runs someone over and kills the person... And the whole idea of car jacking your ride is not something you want a 5 year old to be exposed to either... The game's just not meant to be played by people under 18 - let alone a 5 year old.
Like I said in another post, try the Simpsons: Hit and Run... You don't even have to jack cars there, you just go up to a car and the guy will drive you around town... And if you hit someone walking on the street they don't die... But if you hit too many objects/people the cops'll be after you and you could loose 50 coins as a ticket...

It's called, "Sing with Elmo".
ImVision - 20 Nov 2003 06:03 GMT If you want to let your son play GTA, and u dont like the voilence, the could be a solution, so long as he doesnt mind playing in an empty city, or playing online. MTA (www.mtavc.com) is a multiplayer mod for GTA3/ GTA: VC. The latest GTA: VC version contains a "stunt mode" where there are no weapons, no pedestrians and no violence. the aim is to do good stunts and get money. As i mentioned he coul dplay this online, as it runs on any connection, even runs on 56k fairly well.
hope it helps

But you can try the Simpsons: Hit and Run... It's like GTA without all the things I just mentioned... And the cars drive better and the video is better and there are lots of things to explore... -- Then it hit me, This cosmic pull and energy It kinda makes me wonder If I'll ever make it back home
