Besides the the texture/graphics boost, it looks like the PC version is
getting a "last 30 seconds" replay recorder, and replay editor as well.
Don't remember what multiplayer changes are coming

With fraps and inline video capture out there already, 30 seconds doesn't
sound like a whole lot. But, considering some cool vids from guys like Ultra
Ben Buja, i guess thats enough.

I still plan on buying it, and may not finish the 360 version in
anticipation of . Hopefully ol' faithful is up to the challenge. She does
good with FarCry and Oblivion.

Mine's four years old and handles San Andreas pretty well (at 960 x 600).  No way it'll handle GTA4 and
it's a laptop so upgrades would be out of the question even if I could afford them.  Our other computer is
a Dell Dimension 2400 that's slightly older and much less capable.  That's why I bought a 360 in the
first place, for games I could never run on any PC I could afford.  PC gaming just isn't for me...

yeah, I have to say apart from odd games over the years I'm a console
man. I had a rally game which kicked the a.s off its console version
way back, I had both Sims games, again, much better than their
counterparts, carmageddon II which was ace, and of course the Diablo
games, something I wouldn't even dream of playing on consoles.
Otherwise it is greatly about the games being built for the systems
and even if they might look better on some super computer I couldn't
justify that.

Well, PC prices have also fallen and with the fairly high prices of
the new consoles, at least in Europe, the difference is now less. With
careful selection of parts a game capable PC costs about 600 euros (or
USD too) or less. PC games are still cheaper than console games.

It's not just cost, but the way things work. Some people (raises hands
high) have a heck of a time getting used to new controls.

Mind you, with all this signing in etc etc on 360s it's beginning to
feel like a PC, and I do have a keyboard for the thing.

Me!

I've tried playing games on my PC but I just can't get used to it.

Games are for the PS3 and 360, IMHO.

Games like the sims are built around a point and click system so they
are much better on PC, I can vouch for that as their ps2 counterparts
were awful. What had been fun on the PC became a chore. I also see in
here that stuff like targeting in GTA games is much easier with a
mouse, and I can believe that too, but yeah, for just day to day play
it has to be what I know. I even find it hard switching between PS2
and xbox 360 nowadays and my son buying guitar hero with guitar is a
waste on me. Mind you, he freely admitted that when he plays on the
pad instead of the guitar he can kick the game's a.s much easier.

If he's really that good, maybe you should consider letting him quit
school to play Guitar Hero full-time ;p

It always seemed strange to me that games that utilise and actually
benefit from mouse control didn't have it implemented.

For example, on the PS1 the ultra-rare DiscWorld games were so much
less frustrating when using the mouse. Try playing it on the PS2 and
you're forced to use the joypad. It's especially disappointing as the
PS2 had USB ports that one could plug peripherals in to, but where was
the support in the games? It also seems funny to me that games that
actually *did* support mouse control didn't function with the official
Sony mouse!

Ahh, nostalgia: I might fire up Simon The Sorcerer for some
point-and-click action later....

Cheers,
Rob

If I'm lucky.....

I've just replayed Star Fighter 3000 on my humble old Acorn this week -
if you can find a copy for the PS1 or the 3DO (!) buy it - hands down
one of the most engaging and brilliant pick-up-and-play flight sims
going.

Cheers,
Rob

My Xbox 360 cost me $350, which was a bit easier to reach than $600.  I
thought about building my own PC back when my last desktop died, but I
chickened out and bought the Dell instead.  It was quicker, cheaper, and
much more likely to work the first time I hit the power switch.

It's also much less powerful than what I wanted, but at my income lever you
can have everything (I usually consider myself lucky to have anything)...

Well, it is a great free (as in freedom) operating system. There is also
an (experimental) version for the PS3 btw. =:-)
