Up until now, I've had no real urge to get the PC version of GTA San
Andreas (got it on PS2). Then I watched a couple of videos of the
ENBSeries mod:

http://boris-vorontsov.narod.ru/gallery_en.htm

- especially the video labeled "GTA San Andreas Honda CBR600RR 2"

http://www.youtube.com/?search_query=ENBSeries

- especially: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfKp71DufOE

Now I just hope my somewhat decent PC can run the game with the mod
enabled (it gets cranky with the Kane & Lynch demo with the mod enabled,
but K&L is a much newer game)...

No idea what resolution a PS2 or XBOX was capable of on a television, but i
run SA PC at 1280x1024 and it looked very good. Very few signs, posters,
etc, that were too blurry to read.

I run GTA4 at the same resolution on the same monitor (Samsung SyncMaster
204B), and the difference is quite noticable between the two, but SA does
hold up well visually considering the differences. And SA flies right along
on my aging PC. If that mod is bogging down systems, perhaps the code isn't
quite optimized yet.

The videos are a bit low quality, but all i'm seeing in some of these "SA4"
videos are reworked cars, trees, and a GTA4'ish soft filter added.
Buildings, roads, etc, still look the same. I'd certainly download it and
see if it helps or hurts SA. Doubt i'm ever gonna play through it again, but
i have fired it up a couple times since 4 came out.

Excited after finally graduating kindergarten after 20 gruelling years,
"GMpartsguy" <kb1cih@cPoImScSaOsFtF.net> burst forth on this most
auspicious occasion with the following:

It's a very small download, and there's no install, just drop a DLL in
the San Andreas game folder and optionally change some settings in an
INI file, and then start up the game.

It also improves the contrast, adds indirect lighting (watch the last
part of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSdHKup1Er8 , and notice how the
car reflects what's actually around it).

I also meant to point out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ra8XJjeKoY ,
but forgot to. Notice the shadows are greatly improved. I see that SA on
the PC has shadows being cast, but the brightness of everything is so
high that they're almost invisible (that whole "fullbright" look is what
makes SA look so bad). The ENBSeries mod brings them out to the point
where they actually seem like shadows.

I don't know that I'll necessarily play through the entire game again,
but the low price of GTA:SA now, in addition to this mod, would make it
worth my time, since there are a few missions that I enjoy playing again
and again ("T-Bone Mendez" is my favorite GTA mission of all time).
There are a few other PC mods that I've been curious about, but the
relatively unimproved graphics in comparison to PS2 (higher-resolution
textures/display is not a big deal, seeing as it's the only real
difference) kept me from caring too much. Playing through the missions
with updated graphics will make me smile :)

Kinda cute. Shadows and reflections are messed up, and everything
looks a little bit fuzzy, can't wait for version 1.0!
