guys! you're worrying the sh.t out of me! i'm sitting here, as usual,
hanging on every word from your GTA IV adventures, but you've all gone
quiet!? what's *wrong* with GTA IV that you're all sooo quiet? is it
that you're all playing the game so much that you can't write anything
here? are you sick of it already? is it really so empty? if it's the
last point, then that's just sad.

It always happens to me, I'll get hooked on something then suddenly
it'll be something else. I fired up forza 2 the other week and now I'm
hooked. I did play GTAIV very heavily though and I am sure I'll keep
playing it, just some games demand a lot of attention and forza 2 is
one of those.

Check the reviews, it's an awesome game but like any game that is focused
on the single player experience you eventually get your fill. The game is
over 3 months old now after all, plenty of time for people to have
finished it.

I still play the online component every night as for some dumb reason I
can't understand I'm hooked on trying to level up my character. It's
still enjoyable & still holds value for me. (despite the occassional
idiot teammate who delights in blowing up your cars or crashing your
copter for his small minded amusement, but that's nothing new to online
gaming I suppose)

If you read the group enough you'll find that there is a certain
contingent of people who were hooked on all the frills of Grand Theft
Auto: San Andreas and are disappointed that some non essential things
like jetpacks, planes (there are helicopters), etc are not present in GTA
IV. Rockstar decided instead to move closer to the realm of realism in
crafting a detailed city. It's still not flawless but I'd say it's the
best approximation of a living breathing city that Rockstar has achieved
thus far.

You'll simply have to see for yourself I guess. Some people aren't happy
while others are. I've played all the modern incarnations of GTA and this
one didn't disappoint me. Perhaps it's because I really didn't care to
spend time messing around with planes, parachutes & jetpacks as they
simply didn't hold my interest. I almost never replay story games save
for Bioshock which I've been through probably 4-5 times now. :)

While I agree with this much of the game doesn't stand up to close
scrutiny. From a distance shop windows etc look fantastic but close up
they look awful, while at the same time things like rusted metal and
old wood can look amazing.
I feel there's a lack of interesting places to explore. All these
amazing but unusable buildings... not enough of them are open to use.
Oh I don't know. It's that so much is promised and yet so much of it
remains unfulfilled.

One little touch i would have liked to have would be that bars stay
open for use without being on a date etc and restaurants actually
serve you instead of you only being able to take people there on
dates/friends.

It really is a glorious looking thing though and fair panting with
atmosphere.

GTA IV was and is a fantastic game, in and of itself.

The main problem with GTA IV is that Rockstar's main competitor,
Rockstar, set the bar too high with San Andreas. The other main problem
is that we also had certain expectations that were not met. These are
what make GTA IV look less than outstanding; not any real failing of the
game itself.

Once they roll out the DLC, there should be quite a few more interiors
to explore (I have a feeling that the PS3 will get all or most of the
interiors, even if we don't get the missions themselves, since there are
a few buildings around Liberty City that look like they should have
interiors, but yet do not. This is not including the ones that have
interiors only accessible during missions).

I agree, I've noticed some things which have obvious detailing yet are
unavailable to use. Mind you, I haven't completed the game yet so
maybe I just haven't used the places yet.

By all means, buy GTA4.

I can only echo what's been said already for the single player side. The
city is a thing of beauty for the most part. Like Paul said, some of the
window fronts do look cheesy up close. I'm still finding those little things
and details that were added to make LC more realistic.

The city is hardly empty, but without all the "toys" we had in SA, i'm
finding it tougher and tougher to find ways to interface with the city. A
skate/bike park, but no bikes or skateboards. An amusement park that really
isn't that amusing. An airport that gets you 4 wanted stars for attempting
to explore it fully. All the fire escapes in GTA are solid now, but it seems
like 1/2 or more can't be climbed for whatever reason.

Maybe some of us did get spoiled by the fluff items/odd vehicles from SA, or
we're just getting uncreative in our old age. ;)  I am holding back a bit on
doing any cheats or Cleve style in-mission experiments until i'm done with
the main storyline. Although, i couldn't myself and interupted a mission to
get the Romero. ;)

I'm not disappointed with GTA4 in the least. Hopefully R* drops more than
one opportunity for downloadable content. I'd like to hit the multiplayer
side, but i'm not into the 13 year old mentality either. Maybe we could
organize an AGGTA session some day.

Oh yes, please! That would rock.

I'm not complaining. I think GTA IV great! I'll admit that in some
respects it is sometimes disappointing, but it's still a great game.

thanks for your replies guys. there's no way in hell that i will miss
this when it's available for the PC. the only problem of course will be
buying it from the USA and getting it back in to Australia without some
git confiscating it. we usually buy our games from New Zealand, but
they're banning games as well these days. (for those who think Australia
is retarded for needing "edited/redacted" versions of these games, it's
only because we don't have an "R" rating for games. some dickweed forgot
to make one, so if it's not M-rated, we can't have it! D'oh!)

i'm still playing SA, and am hoping stuff like Saint's Row 2 and GTA4
will come sooner than later. my pc is soooo freaking powerful, which is
useless, as there's no effing games to play!! (and no, 1st person war
games bore me!)

Sound like this would suck big time. Well, over here in Switzerland, I
luckily have no problem buying games like GTA IV at all. They even sold
Manhunt 2 for the PSP in the shops.

So, you cannot buy the game, even if you're an adult? I think even in
Germany, you can buy games rated for 18+. It is just, the shops may not
advertise these games anymore.

yeah, if the stupid politicians get off their arses and make an R rating
for games, then we'd be ok. some of the game companies don't want their
games rated R as they think they won't sell as many copies for whatever
reason. i say bring it on.

nope. i think NZ may be changing their ratings or something, so that may
suck for us Aussies. i usually buy our games from New Zealand, but not
if they also sell only edited versions. it's a principle thing: i want
the real game. f.ck pretenders!

me and my mates will end up buying GTA4 from the US and smuggling it
back in to Australia. they may confiscate 1, but they won't get them
all. it's real easy to see why people would pirate such a game if it
gets this hard to legally buy something as an adult.
