GTA4: Forced scripting

Looking at a few of the other threads. I noticed in one mission, the scripting changes your weapon,
which is rather annoying.

It was for that Rastafarian guy. In the 2nd half of the mission, you can be carrying a gun better
than a pistol, but the cut scene changes your weapon to a handgun. You can change it back, but it's
a bit annoying. I had an assault rifle ready to carry out the rest of the mission.

I don't remember any time in SA where there's "fixed" scripting for weapon settings like this. Cut
scenes seem to be more dynamic, where if you are in a clown suit holding a bazooka, you're in a clown
suit holding a bazooka for said cut scenes.

C'mon Rockstar. You know us players are smarter than the average player, and sometimes we like to
do missions in alternate methods other than the intended path. For "sayonara salvatore" in GTA 3,
I had no luck with the sniper rifle, so I made a car roadblock at his mansion and tossed grenades
over the wall & killed him that way.

I am sure there were missions in SA where you lost good weapons if you
had them. The one with Smoke on the bike is one, I often had a good
machine gun only to have it replaced with the smallest which is then
almost empty by the time he drops you off. The one where you do the
target shooting also switches your pistol unless you change from
pistol before you start shooting. There are others too, but I can't
recall which.

Yeah, that crap's been going on since Vice City.  I don't know why the
programmers insist on making you swap out your weapons early in the game.
Surely it's can't be that hard to account for the possibility that the
player may have weapons and stocked up ammo he'd like to keep.  In fact,
that's why I don't bother building up an ammo stock early in the game
anymore, because I know I'll probably lose it.

I think the only reason this didn't happen in GTA3 was because there was
only one type of weapon per slot.  No choices or upgrades like the later
games.

this one doesn't seem as drastic as most of the time you can kind of
swap back, though I noticed that sometimes if you actually buy a
replacement gun that can knock your ammo back, not always, just
sometimes.

and that damned big gun it gives you to fire from the car, I think it
is also empty when you get to the other end.

Don't you get an Uzi in the truck chase with the Russians, too? And your M16
(if you've got one) is changed to an AK during that mission where the bike
cop jumps on the car. Incidentally, has anyone noticed the GTA:SA Sprunk
billboard after it has a big hole in it? How did they get away with that?

What- you mean you didn't notice what it says after the car jumps through
the hole, way back when you were playing SA?

I'd have thought a better simile would be "innocent as a bunny". It takes
someone with their mind in the gutter to notice some of the more subtle R*
gags...

heh, I think the old mind has been dragged through the gutter a few
times and wrung out again :O)
