I was amazed one night playing GTA IV Hearing a very young person
online. I asked how old he was and said he was 10. When I asked if his
dad was there, he said yes and asked to speak to him. he then put him
on and I asked the dad if he realized his 10 year old was playing a
game with vulgar language, killing, prostitution and car jacking... he
replied yes but as long as he is happy and not bothering him its
fine ...and that since he was the parent he should make the decision.
point well taken...but what does everyone else think? is it right
to let a 10 year old play GTA IV

nope but I guess times have changed. You hear a LOT of very young kids on
there. I personally believe it's wrong but it's not my problem. If parents
don't want to bring their kids up the right way there's not much we can do
about it.

Oh boy, an ethics discussion. ;)

At what age should a child join dad turkey or deer hunting ? What age should
you let your child ride a moped or 1'st dirtbike ?

Ultimately it's up to an aware and active parent to decide when their child
is ready for the next level, and how it is affecting them. Should every 10
year old be allowed to play GTA ? Hell no !
But in this particular case, it sounds like dad was near by, and GTA isn't
being used as an electric babysitter. Hopefully dad discusses the aspects of
GTA with his son, and Jr grows up knowing the difference between
entertainment and the real world. I am a firm believer that video games (or
any other frowned upon activity) only negatively affect true born idiots and
fools.

About 30 years ago when i was approaching my teen years, my father sat me
down and told me he would rather satisfy any curiosity to smoke my first
cigarette or joint, or get my first drunk in the safety of our home than
risk doing it somewhere else. With zero penalty too.

Along those same lines, i graduated high school with my girlie. Her parents
were like mine, and during that 1'st summer of freedom, insisted that we had
our few parties at their house instead of in the woods or wherever we
normally went. A very good summer where nobody died, beat up, drove drunk,
or got arrested.
This is now considered a crime in the US. Which is fair if the dirtball
parents encourage frequent parties or participate other than
supervision/intervention. Times have changed since the 80's obviously, but
parenting should not. It all comes down to mom and dad realizing the
capacity of their spawn, and actually participating in their lives !

There's never a night I've been on multiplayer where there's a freakin' kid on GTA. It
pisses me off. They get muted rather quickly. The game is simply not appropriate for kids
on numerous levels.

I remember one kid was just screaming & hollerin' non-stop from all the action & such
during GTA race. They also have a tendency to be yappy. I'm almost tempted to "submit
player reviews", but mute works just fine.
