In the new GTA you can hail a taxi to get to places. How come this didn't
work for the black character in San Andreas?

His name was Carl, and does it make any difference?

Claude Speed could not either get a taxi. It's not a matter of color :)

But he could swim, which all previous white characters could not.

So what's your point boy?

and he had a wicked line in comic reactions etc... and a gang... and
cool customized cars... and was more fun than all the previous
characters rolled into one.

Plus he could ride a bike.

yeah, another missing thing. It feels like there isn't enough little
funny things to do in this one.

What like hold up a store kind of thing? My main complaint is the fact that
you can't take any decent photos. The camera in SA was loads of fun with
the photo oppotrunities but the mobile, apart from being clunky to take a
photo, you can't do anything with it once you have!

It would have been really easy to fit photo collecting into the story, he
could be taking pictures to send to him mum for example.

San Andreas spoiled us in that regard. Stadiums, casinos, real estate, races
involving everything, the full spectrum of vehicles, etc. The huge
environment made for all those nifty things to do as well.

I know each GTA has to have it's own signature taste and features, but SA
really did add some great toys to the sandbox that the series invented. And
they are sorely missed. Flying fixed wingers, fuel tank door explosions.
Garages for cars.

OTOH, the new environment and physics are slammin. My only complaint is with
the ragdoll department. When you bail out of a car, you tumble as fast and
almost as far as the car goes. Which takes the fun out of bailing for the
most part. Unless the car runs Niko over, then it's funny.

I'm not on XBOX Live, but from what i've seen of the videos on youtube,
multiplayer makes those shortcomings forgetable.

There is a mission where he has to do something with Packy. About
halfway through he has to get into a vehicle and Packy jumps in too,
only someone threw a grenade and suddenly packy is doing this weird
thing, kind of half crawling half floating in space and it's like a
bad Thunderbirds puppet. Problem then was he took so long to get back
up we got hit again and that was that.

and what's with the occasional thing where Niko (nearly called him CJ
then!) touches something and falls over as if he has been hit. it
doesn't happen often but it happens and it is usually something silly
like a chair or piece of wood.

Well I am not sure about that. I bought myself a one month prepaid code
to find this out myself and I experienced

* Stupid retards in the lobby. Not only do they all talk this "gangster"
style of English no matter where they are coming from but a good part of
them is also unfortunately too dumb to find the A button. Imagine a
deathmatch, everybody is "ready" except for one person who doesn't get
the clue that he or she has to press the green button in order to start
the game. AAARRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!

* Weird play style in deathmatch. Maybe I'm getting too old for this but
taking cover on a roof and sniping everybody or driving a car and
smashing all of the enemies with  the car should get verboten real soon.
It's just not fun (in my opinion at least).

I doubt I will renew the Live sub when it expires having experienced
*that*.

It's usually young americans who run around insulting folks and each
other on TDU and they drove me to stop using my headset. The other day
I bumped into a large group of cockneys and just one did the whole
"innit" and "nah watta meen?" thing but he was enough to make me want
to put my headset on and shout "YES, I KNOW WHAT YOU BLOODY MEAN!!!"

there will always be some who think that as long as they win it
doesn't matter how they win. They get their kicks by winning this way
and it isn't possible to plead to their better natures as they don't
have one.

I agree. I've seen some funny thing or weird things I'd have liked to
take a shot of and it's just a waste of time

That's a shame, I assumed that they got stored as actual photos on
your PS3 and I was going to enquire as to how to access them!

well I'm on the 360 but it doesn't seem to do anything. It does
mention sending images but I assume it means in game and it seems only
to those who have asked for them in a mission.
