After a period of having not used the PS2, I turned it on and put in GTA Vice City. I found that the only control I had was the ability to move around. I could not enter vehicles or use any form of weapon -- even just a fist. I then tried GTA III loading a saved game with plenty of weapons to use, but again the only thing that worked was cycling weapons and moving around. I'm assuming you've made sure the pad is seated properly in its slot. To be honest they're not easy to reassemble if you take them apart to clean them either. I am also assuming you have only one pad so can't test another and make sure it isn't the socket itself which is faulty? do you know anyone else with a ps2 you can borrow a pad from? The buttons move freely and don't seem to be stuck. I've made sure that the controller is firmly inserted into the front of the box. I could try to borrow a controller from some one, but it does seem that my controller has just unexpectedly stopped working. I had wanted to avoid having to get another controller, but having experienced the same problem with the function buttons not working on GTA III, GTA: VC and GTA: SA as well as a non GTA game it has to be that part of the controller that just doesn't work anymore. Interestingly though, I can skip the rockstar logo animation at game load by pressing X. Yeah, I was concerned that it might be the port, which is why I suggested borrowing a pad before buying one. You can get them at a reasonable price though, but I have yet to find a third party one which I found acceptable, which is a shame as they are usually much cheaper.
