They will become unlocked when you are able to officially get a pilot
license, which I believe is after the mission "Learning to Fly".

The Maverick helicopter should always be unlocked.

it's okay, you just go back and it'll be there again.

I don't understand that. Are you playing a console version of the
game? I can't say with the PC version but console versions definitely
respawn things like this.

The PC version also respawns them. In my experience, if you were to take a
Hunter, and destroy the first plane, then fly round the airport and destroy
all the others, by the time you get back to the location of the first one,
it will have had time to respawn.

The only unreliable spawn in SF airport is the NRG500 between the hangars
near the Maverick, which for me only seems to be there if I jump into the
airport from the tunnel in the hillside above those hangars.

Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not.  Keep trying.  It took me twenty tries to find a Sandmaster (or
whatever it's called) with hydraulics under the Big Ear.

"Sand King", with or without the space & capitalized 'k' (been ages
since I've bothered with one.  Didn't know there was a bouncy version,
though.

I didn't either, until Paul mentioned it.  Like I said, they're not easy to
come by.

Now that one IS unreliable. Sometimes it's not there for days and
days.

Strangely, I discovered that I'd find one nearly every time if I ride a BF-
400 motorcycle (the one with the double headlights) up there.  They're
either in the same 'group' together or it's one hell of a coincidence.

The BF-400 also seems to be the only motorcycle that doesn't have a spawn
spot anywhere in San Andreas.  Couldn't find one on the vehicle map from
GameFAQs, anyway.  Finding one can be a real bastard sometimes.

yeah, that's typical. Almost as annoying as collecting cars for
export, then going to the garage and finding the car gone and then
finding a common car is not around anymore.
