Hi Guys.

I¨m about 62% complete with VC. I have purchased all
properties there is to buy, and currently I decided to halt
with the storyline and concentrate in mopping up the details, like
Jumps and Hidden Packages.

BUT. Out of nowhere, the game started acting up. Where before,
loading a savegame would put me into action in few seconds, now
I am stuck with grey screen for _many_ minutes before letting me into
the game. The same happens when I jump the ramps - screen goes
into the "fly-by slow-motion" mode as before, but after landing, it
does not go back to normal view as it should, but only after a period
of couple minutes !!

Needless to say, this makes it impossible to handle consecutive jumps,
and quite possible keeps me from obtaining 100% completion.
(and no, I have not used cheat codes, ever)

I read somewhere that save slot at Car Dealership can
corrupt the save file - can anybody tell if this might be the
cause for my problem ? And how to work around it?

Or am I just royally screwed?? :)

Cheers,
Rudi

Yes, royally screwed.  You are experiencing a bug that occurs in both
VC and III.  There is no known fix except to load a previous save. You
do know that you should keep a couple of saves that you alternate
between, don't you?  If not, welcome to the really fun part of the GTA
series.  You will have to start the game over if this is your only
save.

Out of desparation you might want to try deleting the gta_vc.set file
which contains hardware configuration info.  VC will recreate the file
and you can set your own config options when you run the program.  The
file is found:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your name here>\My Documents\GTA Vice City
User Files\gta_vc.set

This fixes some problems but I didn't find that it helped much with
this problem.  Your situation my be different.

Good luck and best wishes.

OK
Thanks for your answer.
I do (did) rotate my savegames, but unfortunately I have saved my
progress so frequently that all the saves are having this same bug
(took me almost two hours to cycle all saves, the delays were already
so bad).

So I guess it is back to square one.... :(

Cheers,
Rudi.

ps. From the text at the link, it seems that the corrupt save slot is
in fact Cherry Poppers. Yes, i do own that and have saved there.
I Must remember to leave that to last next time I play the game.

It's actually the Cherry Poppers ice cream factory, all the others are
fine. They were supposed to have fixed it on the PC version though.

You might have no other option than to reload an earlier save.

Cheers,
Rob

Someone else posted about this sort of thing some time ago, but there
didn't seem to be any definite cause or a solution, other that
starting over or using an older save. The thread is at

Never got that one.

This, on the other hand, started when I got a GeForce 6200TC to my
system.  Deleting the settings file so it'd be recreated didn't help,
nor did starting a completely new game. :/ [moving my existing saves
elsewhere, of course]
