Sand-Eating Glass-Crapper - 08 Jun 2007 18:04 GMT
I still haven't finished San Andreas. I bought it for the PS2 when it came
out, but couldn't get far with the gamepad. This is because my first and
only other GTA game was Vice City for the PC. I beat the crap out of that
game, though it took a while to do it. When I got the hang of it. But San
Andreas seems much harder to me. It's not just that it's at least 3x as
large, but the missions are... take the Blood Ring for instance. I remember
this from VC, but I don't remember it being this damned hard. And the crap
you gotta find. Only 100 packages in VC. 50 tags, 50 photos, 50 oysters, 50
horse shoes. And the oysters were the biggest bitch so far. Especially the
ones in San Fierro that give you 5 stars when you go near them. I also
haven't flown yet. Well, I have, but fly too far and get shot down by
rockets! And it doesn't seem to be counting toward my flying skill. This is
that dodo in Los Santos... maybe the PC version is fixed so you have to
wait, I dunno. Anyway, I got to Catalina's missions a while back and quit. I
just re-installed the game and restored my saved games (backed up on a
DVD-R). I got through the Catalina missions and got into San Fierro,
finally. I have all 50 tags, 30 oysters, 50 photos. What I haven't done
yet--Trucker Missions, Blood Ring, that mountain bike thing (forget the
name)... that Beat the Cock crap... hijacking the train... Hippy Shopper and
the PCJ 500 challenge in San Fierro. I think that's it. I did 3 of the
trucker missions before giving up. This game's too hard. I'm about to smash
it.

Good. If you have any complaints I'm sure Rockstar will listen.

People wanted bigger, and that's what Rockstar gave them.  Now a lot of people seem to agree that SA
was TOO big, somehow.  Anyway, all GTA games are going to make you want to tear your hair out at
some point or other.  Personally, I got tired of the missions and just downloaded a 100% save from
somewhere and have fun screwing around doing whatever I want with no restrictions imposed by not
having finished the game.  It's a great way to unwind and I can always start a new game if I ever feel like
it.

Some people want the challenge of beating the game.  Me, I just like to f.ck around.

Think yourself lucky - on the PC version I've just had to do 100 tags.

I've currently got a savegame with all but seven of the tags (the six you do
in the tags mission, and the one nearest CJ's house), all weapon skills
maxed, bike skill maxed, firefighter, ambulance, burglary and taxi done, and
the skate-park mission (that was hard) and Robina's mart. I've not yet been
into CJ's house, to kick off the story missions.

I'm wondering whether I can be bothered to do the LV oysters, the horseshoes
and the snapshots before I unlock the bridges or get a no-stars mission.

If memory serves there's a no-stars mission very early on. I think it
might be "Drive Thru". I waited until "Just Business" to do all my
collecting, as then the spray tags and numerous other things will be
completed too.

Sand-Eating Glass-Crapper - 09 Jun 2007 13:35 GMT
Yeah, 100, sorry. I did them a long time ago. I did the ambulance and
firefighter, but not vigilante. I could only do it with the tank in Vice
City. And I don't even know where the Rhino is, or if it can be gotten. I
did the Roboi Mart, taxi, pimping, that bmx challenge. I have all weapons
maxed except M4, Desert Eagle, Sub-Machine Gun or whatever the hell... the
weapons you can't get yet (or if you can, I have no idea where). Just 4
altogether. No Chiliad Challenge yet. No Bloodring. No Trucker missions,
except the first 2. All vehcile skills except flying are maxed. I am up to
the mission "Wear Flowers In Your Wear" or whatever.

Same here - I used to do it in the FBI cheetah using a minigun. Or with the
tank.

I might make a few trips to LV to get a minigun and then use the police bike
in SA.

> ...And I don't even know where the Rhino is, or if it can be gotten.

It's at the secret base, but I don't know what triggers its appearance. You
also get one when you complete, or you can p*ss off the authorities enough
and then steal one.
I

Forgot about the pimping. Did that too.

The M4 is in Los Santos airport - at the opposite end of the runway from the
locked gate (it gets unlocked when you get a licence).
Desert Eagle is at the southeast corner of LS, on the beach where it ends
and the port begins.
There's a sawn-off at the end of the rail line near the desert eagle.
There's an MP5 north-west of the LS rail tunnel entrance, on top of a
building in Vagos turf.

I managed once with the cheetah & minigun and once with the Hunter after
Cop Land. (definitely easier with the Hunter - harder to control, but
most of the spawns started in the airport)

Is there a minigun you can get without the jet pack?  Hint: During the
bank robbery with Catalina, once the cops on bikes show up, kill
Catalina to fail the mission, grab one of the bikes, and store it in a
garage (Palamino Creek's closest, obviously :). It'll remain
everythingproof and make Vigilante a lot easier...

I don't think you need the jet pack for any of them, but you do have
to fly to to two of them. The one at the construction yard in
southeast LV might be a little hard without a jet pack, but there's
plenty of space on the railway bridge in San Fierro to land a heli.
Even a Dodo if you're good. The minigun pickup in northeast LV is
underground, so it's actually easier if you don't fly...

But these are only 200 rounds each, so collecting a decent supply for
vigilante is pretty hard, at least early in the game. The minigun
pickup at Toreno's is 500 rounds, but that's available fairly late in
the game.

By the way, the biggest problem with doing Vigilante on a police bike
is that sometimes the bad guys have shotguns and those do a lot of
damage. And it's damage to CJ, not the bike. I've usually managed
vigilante with just the police bike, lots of MP5 ammo, some M4 and a
few rockets.

You can also base jump to it from the top of the suspension bridge pylon.
There's a parachute on top and CJ can walk or drive a bike up the cable.
That is also my favourite way to get aboard the carrier.

Yep, - the bike is almost indestructible during vigilante.
You get a vehicle health bonus for finishing each level (30% on bike / 20%
off bike) and the tires are puncture proof.
Those benefits actually outlives the mission but can't be stored in a
garage.

Despite that, I lose my vehicles *VERY* easily in SA's Vigilante, hence
why I always suggest the everything proof bike. :)

When you say vehicle do you mean a police car ??
Cars are much more vulnerable than bikes, - Vigilante in a policecar is very
hard to pull off.
On a bike CJ takes the most of the hits, - but health and armour can be
easily replenished.

No, I mean the bike - with the cops on my a.s for most of Vigilante,
they do a lot of ramming.  The everythingproof cop bike seems sturdier
and doesn't go flying nearly as easily when there's a glancing blow.
(and the fact that it doesn't take damage means that the slightest hit
doesn't send its handling plummeting...)

On my last run through, I'd wait 'til "reuniting the families" (I didn't
know "drive through" was no-stars) and do the photos, horseshoes and
oysters. each time I'd done ten, I'd go get the two easy miniguns (LV
building site and underground car park), come back to CJ's place and take
out the petrol tank of Sweet's car with a pistol shot to fail the mission,
save, then repeat.

The worst thing about SA is there's nowhere to drop your weapons, like the
golf club and airport in Vice City. So you can spend time building up an
impressive arsenal then lose a chunk of it in one mission.

"Drive thru" isn't the first no-stars mission, after all...

Turns out it's "Drive by" - doing all the oysters, snapshots & horseshoes as
I type (well not actually at the same time - that would be ridiculous).

Not ridiculous at all, but that'd raise questions on what
exact species were used in your conception!
Oh, you're from a crossover of GTA and Surface ?-)

You certainly can get all three of those at the beginning of the game, and not very far from CJ's house,
either.  I recommend checking out the weapons map from GameFAQs for details on exactly where to find
them.

Getting the M4 requires breaking into the airport, BTW, but that's doable as well.

There's an M4 between the yellow ramp thingies at the west end of the
Los Santos airport's runways.

Desert Eagle's down in the southeast corner of Playa del Saville, behind
a billboard where the beach ends as the road curves west.

Depending on which SMG you mean, there's a Tec-9 on top of Sweet's
house. There's a Micro SMG in the multi-storey garage north of the
stadium that has a tag right at its entrance that you can get an NRG-500
(can't remember which floor) and under the bridge supports in the canal
just south of your 'hood. For MP5s, there's one on top of the Jefferson
Motel, on the northernmost road of Los Santos itself, on the porch of
the first house west of the trailers, and at Unity Station inside the
enclosure in the same lot that you do the lowrider bouncing mission to
meet Caesar (I do a regular circuit of the 3 MP5 spots before and after
every mission/save :).
