Just finished VCS. It's been years since I  played VC, but wasn't Vic Vance
supposed to be dead at the start of VC?

So how did he die?

Yep.  Which is why this game takes place a year before Vice City.

> So how did he die?

In the opening cutscenes.  He was the guy Tommy was getting the coke from
when Diaz's men ambushed them.  Lance was piloting the copter.

in the initial bungled drug deal that brought tommy vercetti to vice
city.

lance tells you one of the guys who died there was his brother at some
point, iirc.

That's correct....

It's odd how in VC, Tommy takes the piss out of Lance ("Lance Vance
Dance") which Lance takes exception to, whilst in VCS Lance positivwly
relishes saying stupid rhyming name stuff.

The ambivalent plot of VC and VCS is quite good. One must wonder just
how long R* were planning these 'stories' games!

Cheers,
Rob

The best arguement against Vic's death was mentioned awhile back in
another group.

A friend playing VCS caught Vic telling Jerry Martinez, he had TWO
brothers,
one sick, one sick in the head. (Lance being the one sick in the head)

So it is possible that the other brother was the one.

It's an alternative to Vic becoming "Lance's brother who was killed in
the beginning of VC".

It's all kind of a joke really, because the guys in the cutscene had
thick South American accents.

Sometimes we just like drilling holes in Rockstar's theories.

Start a new game in VC and watch the opening movie.  He gets to be one
of the dead guys.
