"could not find original disc" problem

I just got GTA San Andreas, second edition.

I did a complete install to a hard disk with no problem.

When I tried to start the program I got a "could not find original disk"
message.

The minimum requirements say you need an 8 speed DVD ROM drive -- I was
using at a 6 speed USB DVD drive.  Could that be the problem?

Is there a patch or method for getting around needing the disk in a DVD
drive?

If there isn't, can I actually expect it to work if I simply get it fast
enough DVD drive to put the disk in?

Thanks

USB might be, I doubt the speed matters.

I'm not sure if there is for the version you have. Gamecopyworld.com
has one for the European release, no idea if that works you. There's a
number of mini images too.

I've been running off an external USB drive since the day I got the
game.  Works just fine...  'Course it is a 16x drive.
