wheelies and stoppies in VC for the PC

In Vice City on my PC, I can DO wheelies and stoppies, but the bonuses
don't show up, and they don't show up in stats either. Stuff like
insane jumps and 2-wheel bonuses do show up, however.

Is there a known issue with this? More importantly, will it keep me
from getting 100%?

On the ps2, if memory serves me right, the wheelies and stoppies in
vice city have to be held for some time before they are counted. try
holding a stoppy for longer than ten seconds or so.

I don't know about the stoppies, but I did a few wheelies on a Sanchez
the whole length of the long runway at Escobar International, and still
got nothing for it.

hm, sounds like there is a problem, but I don't own the pc version.
I'll have to dig it out on a console and have a go at the airport.

Make sure you are not scraping the back of the bike on the ground...
I've noticed that you can hold a wheelie for a very long time by scraping
the tailpiece on the ground but it doesn't count as a wheelie...

I was just wondering about this on san andreas. It's much easier to
wheelie on this game but I find it's also very easy to scrape the
mudguard. I think I've only once got points for a wheelie on SA.

In SA, I find the PCJ 600 to be the best bike for wheelies, as it seems to
have a natural position where it is balanced correctly and able to go very
long distances. I have managed times of over 2 minutes regularly and once
over 4 minutes. I accelerate from rest, get the front wheel up, then
accelerate a bit more until it seems to gets into a balanced position. From
this, it is possible to drive the bike for a long time with small taps of
the forward key. It will also coast down gentle slopes in the wheelie
position.

In VC, I found it hard to get the bike balanced, impossible to steer, and
never managed to get a time longer that 15 seconds.

I guess this where we start working out which is the best controller
for wheelies. Yeah, VC is ugly for them, but I did get the odd good
one going. SA I guess I just lose interest as they go on too long. I
think I got stoppies down okay on VC on the ps2 but things like this
don't seem to wor as well on the xbox. Kept trying xbox san andreas
wheelies and stoppies and kept overdoing it. I find on the xbox
version the bikes seem to lean forward in normal motion much more,
makes them prone to ditching you on the floor more often and small
jumps where you normally wouldn't have to correct balance much will
tip you off also.

No and no. I just tried Vice City, haven't played it for a while on my
PC. As I tried it now, I remembered why. There was this weird wheelie
effect with all rwd cars. Very annoying, but a reinstall took care of
it. I don't know if I installed a mod or where it came from.

As for wheelies with a motorbike, they seem to be as I remember. Just
have to hold it over 5 seconds or it won't count.

I couldn't do any stoppies, at first though. The rear wheel just
wouldn't come up, no matter how hard I lean forward and brake. Weird.
Then I deleted the settings file and restarted the game => stoppies
now possible too...

I'm pretty sure it's less than that, but I could be wrong | (Doubt It).

Stoppies are quite easy for me, but only on a PCJ600. It's a simple
case of whacking on the brake and handbrake and then hitting the
accelerator when the bike leans forward.

I still totally dig the stunts you can do in San Andreas, the FCR900
bike is qualit-ay.

Cheers,
Rob

Oh, I had no idea you could do that. I just lean forward and brake and
get a stoppie notification when the PCJ600 stops. I couldn't get a
stoppie registered with any other bikes, though.

I suppose I should have mentioned - The Faggio scooters are quite good
for stoppies.

Yeah, but they are embarrassing to ride: Even though nobody actually "sees"
you, it still gives that uneasy feeling that you look a complete tosser.

I wish that Rockstar had added some better looking scooters, a nice
Vespa or Lambretta or something.

If vehicle modding is back for GTAIV I'd also like to bikes and vans
being modded.

Given the name, you're probably supposed to feel that way.  :)

Actually, when I started playing VC I used one to explore the city because it was faster than walking and
the scooter could go damn near anywhere I could on foot, yet it was slow enough that I wasn't crashing
into stuff every thirty seconds (Unlike SA, VC is too crowded to really let you unwind a fast bike).  I didn't
care about how I looked, but the sound of the engine quickly got on my nerves.  On a scale of irritation
it's only a couple steps below a dentist's drill, I thought...

Y'know, I did the same thing. First a Faggio (Or might have been the
even gaudier Pizza Boy) and then a PCJ600 when I knew the layout of the
city well enough to navigate without hitting any obstacles.

Does anybody remember that Oliver Cheatham song that was remixed? The
video featured a lot of quite cool Rockstar-style art. It always
reminds of the first time I played Vice City, Iand I can't wait to go
back there with VCS.

Cheers,

For wheelies hold down lean back and tap at the accelerator until you
are done.  If you go on and off the lean back it doesn't count.  I
vaguely remember one bike worked the other way, hold down the
accelerator and tap lean back.

The front wheel drive pizza bike (or any Faggio) does the best
stoppies.  Put it into a stoppie (brake, handbrake and lean forward)
and then go to accelerate (I think you can release the brakes).  I've
done stoppie times of 20 to 30 seconds, but some people claim minutes.
