I just started playing GTA3. I'd like to see future GTA games involve
Japan & the Yakuza, Eastern Europe and the Russian Mafia, 1920's
Chicago and Al Capone's gang, and a futuristic sci-fi version like
Bladerunner & Judge Dredd. I think the names of various things in GTA
sound really awkward. I'd like to see the real names of locations and
cars used, or at least they should hire a good writer who can come up
with smooth sounding names and graceful writing. I would love it if a
future GTA had the real, actual, entire Los Angeles county (my area)
mapped out in exact detail or at least large parts of it.

Isn't San Andreas based around LA area? Los Santos is LA. To be honest
i think a lot of the voice acting etc leaves much to be desired,
specially in LA, you can almost hear the bits where they pause to turn
a page etc. They also seem to put the wrong emphasis on words, as if
they didn't bother rehearsing. It still knocks spots off the earlier
versions but leaves much to be desired.

using real car names etc means paying people money to do so, and
probably having to meet certain standards in modelling.

I agree with the japanese-future type thing, but really they would
just be making a bladreunner type game, which I gather is all Scarface
is, GTA with a movie theme.

Oh, yeah, the russians are also in San Andreas, with awful accents to
match :O)

The Yakuza have played a part in GTAIII and Liberty City Stories. The
Russian Mafia were also featured as one of the gangs in GTA2.

1920's Chicago was pretty much accurately depicted in the game 'Mafia',
so I don't see Rockstar or any other company using that sort of era
again for a long while.

For me, a good chunk of the GTA games owe a lot to the quirky names.
Some of the car names are also easter eggs. For example, the Sadler
truck is named after Noelle Sadler who's a Rockstar graphician (She was
the chick with the blonde hair displaying cleavage in the promo stuff
and on the game disk.

The writing could do with some improvement, although I find it quite
helpful if instructions for missions are quite concise.

Los Santos *is* Los Angeles. Personally I think having an actual city
layout, like London in 'The Getaway', kind of detracts from the game. I
live in London, and is nice to explore it in a computer game and
recognise points of interest (They did a great job with Soho).

Learning your way around the city (Or state, in SA's case) is one of
favourite things to do. With a specially made geography, it shows you
just how talented some people at Rockstar really are.

I also love the way the way some real life buildings and bridges and
things are recreated for GTA. Check out Las Vegas in San Andreas, the
detail is amazing.

Cheers,
Rob

it really annoyed me with the getaway just bumping into those bollards
etc when they couldn't be arsed to design that part of the city

I would have loved to tour some of the suburbs, like Wimbledon for
example! I'd alos like to see a proper front-ended GTA designer
complete with mission scripts and an easy to use vehicle designer.

A long long time ago a friend and I made up some Quake maps with a lot
of Wimbledon's geography as a school IT project. Our idea was to take
photos and scan them in so that the layout of the place was photo
realistic, but we only ever got as far as doing our school like that.
Only took a few thousand photos in the end....

I used to love messing around designing cars for the original GTA.

What i would like to see in GTA more than anything is a more open way
of doing the missions. Okay, so we can still have the three island
structure, but didn't we used to get a choice, depending on which gang
we chose, as to what missions we would have to do? That would be fun,
say three gangs and three ways of playing through the game, and three
different endings... or even play as a cop/FBI and have four ways.

Same here, although some of my favourite cars were quite difficult to
model. A Ford Mustang looks like any other car from above as it doesn't
have anything really distinctive from a birds-eye view!

I think that's GTA2. I'd like to see the return of the
Respect-O-Meter(tm), it was great fun playing all the gangs off of each
other. Something involving three or more gangs in a proper 3d
environment would add a lot of depth to the plot(s). GTA has always
been a pioneer of free roaming "sandbox" playing areas, but the mission
structure has always been pretty linear.

As far as sandbox gameplay goes, the game that is head and shoulders
above anything is the original Exile on the BBC Master. I've yet to see
a game that has so many technical achievements that add vastly to the
way the game is played. I advise everybody here to download a BBC
emulator (BeemEm is quite good) and a disk image of Exile just so you
can see how good this game actually is.

Rockstar could learn a lot from the two guys that programmed Exile.
It's a mean feat to think that it was coded by two guys in their free
time!

I'd love to see a 3d version of "A.P.B". Check out the Wiki pages for
APB or the adventure RPG "All Points Bulletin". The former can be
credited as being inspiration for GTA, and the latter was designed by
a Rockstar employee.

Cheers,
Rob

Yeah, I kept trying to do old model T type rods, but they just looked
crap. I did a Skyline GTR that was quite passable though.

and that's where it has got tedious. I still like playing san andreas
but am fed up knowing just what is coming next. Sometimes i try to mix
it up a bit but invariably I hit the brick wall where I have to go
back and do something to catch up.

Hm, my son may be interested in this, he loves emulators etc.

Seems to ring bells faintly, but then i am living in a semi daze so it
was probably all a dream :O)

I was just thinking about how much fun Syndicate was!
