Car mods and their effects (Or lack of them)

I was poking around with the game last night looking for hidden things
and I thought I would have a play around with the in game car modding
(That is to say the mods you can apply in the garages not mods you can
inject into the game). A few things became obvious I thought I would
point them out...

Fitting NOS to your car and activating it does not increase the top
speed of your vehicle as it does in real life. In San Andreas it merely
increases your cars acceleration so it reaches its top speed faster,
you won't go any faster burning NOS than you will without activating it
(And without the annoying trail effects as well). The perception of
increased speed comes from the fact that you reach top speed faster due
to the increased acceleration and the trail effects. Also the cars
gearshift sounds do not change, giving you the impression the car is
still accelerating when it really isn't.

Of course, timing yourself travelling over a set distance with and
without NOS will show you achieve it in a quicker time using NOS than
without it. This is because you reach top speed faster and travel
longer at top speed, whereas without it you have a more gradual
acceleration taking longer to achieve top speed and therefore taking
longer to cover the distance.

NOS is also one of only 2 mods you can apply to your car that have any
kind of effect on its performance. The other is fitting offroad tyres.
All other mods are entirely cosmetic only and affect only the visual
appearance of your car. Spoilers and such do absolutely nothing. Many
people refuse to believe this but its true. Just look at a modded and
unmodded cars stats.

Bass boost does increase the bass on the cars stereo but you need a
fairly decent sound system or sensitive hearing to appreciate it which
is why a lot of people seem to think it does bugger all. The speakers
fitted to most standard TV sets are generally not good enough to hear
it well on the PS2 version. Get a 5.1 surround sound system or really
good speakers and it becomes a discernible difference.

The Infernus's top speed of 140mph can be increased by 5mph by fitting
hydraulics to it but this is the only car it works on so I'm fairly
certain it's not an intentional thing. All others top end speeds are
unaffected by hydraulics. The lowering of the car does not alter the
centre of gravity at all so claims it increases the cars handling can
only really be a perceived effect rather than an actual one.

The large vehicles such as the Roadtrain and so on could in theory be
modded with hydraulics, tyres and bass boost but they are flagged as
unmoddable cars by the game and hence you can't mod them.

Off-road tires do have an effect? I though they were just for looks.

Strange, 'cause even on street tires, a nitroused huntley can get up
patriot-grade inclines with no problem. So I don't really see the point
in the ugly OR tires TBH. Therefore I assumed they were just for looks.

They increase the grip marginally. They provide similar (But not
entirely the same as that cars is slightly modified) handling as the
zr-350 in one of the street races where you have off road vehicles. The
effects are most noticeable when accelerating, it is easier to do off
road if you have off road tyres on.

A cars engine power and weight defines how well it can deal with an
incline, its grip has slightly less input on matters. Also its height
off the floor.

Yup, definitely. In one of the first races ("Badlands" I think) all the
cars are fitted with off-road tires to keep the difficulty down.

It's good too; all the cars are proofed in one way or another. Woozie's
pink Elegy is the best as it can be modded at Wheel Arch Angels. I've
now got an everything-proof racer that's *the bomb*.

I've noticed that some cars, typically the sportier models, have
different cornering abilities with different wheels. The Cutter style
at WAA are good on some cars, but useless on others. I presume it's
because if you're racing a car that's the utter mutt's nuts at
powersliding you can pull of some of the more advanced driving skills
with ease.

Doesn't really help with the 19 street races though, as those cars are
all "stock".

How did you get that? Should be good to grab it, although of all the SA
characters, Woozie is the only one who wouldn't give immense satisfaction
when you blow him away - even turning CJ into a pavement pizza is funnier.

It's funny that it's such an awful colour to start with though. It's mean
enough selling a car to a blind man, but making it such an eyesore is just
taking the piss.

I used to have a teacher who drove around in a Windolene-pink XJ6. Wierdo

Start the race and intentionally miss a checkpoint. Drive to where the
race ends (I recommend doing a "dry run" to find it and then marking it
on your map) and wait for Woozie to show up.

Cap the passenger through the windscreen (It appears to be
Catalina!?!?!) and get in the passenger side door to kick Woozie out
and keep the vehicle.

The Fortune you can get in one of these country races is also worth
grabbing, but I prefer the Elegy.

Woozie is on my list as one of the best, if not the best, supporting
characters. I just find it so damn hard not to like him, especially
after the "Mountain Cloud Boys" mission where he runs in to the rule. I
initially thought that was a mission scripting bug but then I heard the
banter between him and CJ and cracked up.

Realistically, it's so you can easily spot which car to keep an eye on.
IIRC, Woozie had a much better chance of coming first.

I love his excuse to CJ in "The Da Nang Thang" that he can't swim to
the boat due to him losing what's left of his senses. Hopefully he
hasn't noticed that I've chavved his car yet....

My middle school English teach was mad. She drove a souped-up Austin
A35 complete with racing stripes.

A pink jag? What is *wrong* with these people?

;o)

For the last word....I meant "wall".

My bad.

I like it when you have to steal the security van and take it to Verdant
Meadows - his henchman says "He insisted on driving - he could be anywhere"

I think it's the same henchman in the early San Fierro missions.

"The boss is blessed in.....other ways".

I'd really like to see Woozie make a reappearance in the series, but
Rockstar have a habit of introducing new characters without giving the
old ones some fresh roles.

Obviously there's a few exceptions....

On the ps2 slimline I could tell the difference immediately. The sound
quality of the game is superior to the xbox one. On that i can't tell
when I install bass boost. It's a bit like it being easier to see in
shadowy areas, the sound just doesn't change drastically. I noted that
it has a setting for EQ in the games settings but it seems to make no
difference either.
