Did r* ever give an explanation as to why the top-down view was removed from
San Andreas?
And is it back in LCS?

was it even in VC? i remember using it for all of 30 seconds in GTA3,
if that. it just doesn't feel right any more. i really struggle to go
back and play GTA and GTA2 nowadays, i'm too used to the 3d
free-roaming and the handy ability to see where you're going and
what's in front of you! :)

i don't remember seeing it (on PSP at least)

That would be perfectly possible, if the camera would have been set a
bit higher. In GTA III you basically see your car filling up the screen.
No chance on evading obstacles when even travelling at low speeds.
GTA2 was cool though. It has this undescribable
Videogame-Reality-Feeling to it. =:-)

It's not. Never missed it though.

I couldn't use the top down view but I would like them to put a better
driving angle in. Even the furthest one is too low. It's too shallow to see
what you are about to crash into, especially if going down hills.

How about you position the camera using the mouse or arrow keys, and then
hit F3 or something to save that as your preferred angle?
A top-down view would be handy for "Burn and lap" at least.

Can you lock the camera position on the PS2 though? I don't use the PC
version

Can't do that in the PS2 versions of GTA3, SA and LCS, nor in the PC
versions of GTA3 or VC...

My favourite toy, the SA Rhino, is bloody annoying to use effectively
with the camera going nuts. The recoil of the gun makes that vehicle
move so the camera adjusts accordingly.
It takes a lot of patience to shoot down police choppers with marauding
cops on-foot in the vicinity.

Nope, I've got a feeling it was only used in GTAIII for nostalgia.
Shame, as it would have been good for finding horseshoes and things.

Nope.

Removed as of Vice City, actually. :(
> And is it back in LCS?
Sadly, no, and it's sorely missed by me. :( Was so useful for lining up
jumps (such as, in GTA3, jumping from the roof of HEAD Radio to the el or
from the el to the Supa-Save [package] or Liberty Pharmaceutical [package,
AK-47]) and seeing beyond walls into courtyards and such so you could see
things you might otherwise miss passing through, not to mention unique
jumps).
Man, it would've been SOOOOO nice to get the Doll's House jump (and
a few others) in LCS where the cinematic camera for the jump gives you no
idea of the line you're actually traveling after you hit the jump or where
you'll land until after you smack into the side of the construction site for
the hundreth time. :P
