Vice City - Hotring Racer

Is the Hotring Racer that you acquire as part of the Sunshine Auto mini
missions one that "reappears" each time you use it and "lose it" by
destruction or some other misfortune?  Meaning - does it reappear like the
Maverick helicopters on the Hyman Condo?  Or is it more like the Rhino tank
that you park in your garage - once it's destroyed it's gone.

The 100% FAQ I am following says to use the Hotring Racer each time during
the Vice City Street Races as part of the Sunshine Auto mini missions.  But
I don't want to use it - and possibly lose it!  Thanks!!

I was trying to recall what you meant. The hotring racer which appears
in the upper level of the showroom is available always once you have
it up there and have saved the game. Pity about the Sandking as it
only comes into its own in San andreas

I really wish that that Sabre Turbo is like Hillary's one from "The
Driver" too.

I quite like the other bonus car too, looks like an Audi Quattro IIRC.

for the Deluxo (If you look at the side on view you can really see why
I think it's a Quattro).

http://www.bellaonline.com/gaming/strategy_lib_gtavcwalk_scar_sb.html -
for the Sabre Turbo, basically the same chassis but with a racing
stripe and much better characteristics.

Believe it ot not, that was the first webpage I came to with Google!
How cool is that?

Ah, so you lot are awake. Just testing.

I'd put that down to fast typing and my superiority complex. I'm using
an old news client which doesn't like drag-and-drop text being imported
from certain other programs.

Either that or I should lay off the glue.

Firstly rob those bella links never work for me, I just get an index.

Yes, the Deluxo, couldn't recall that one at first. I was torn between
the Vauxhall and the Opel from those days.... this one I think

Do we not get a hand on that faster sabre?

Ah yes, I thought it looked like that but couldn't remember the
make/model. I thought it was a Quattro at first as I think it was in the
80s that Audi dominated the world rally.

Yeah, the quatro was slightly more blocky, angular... great car though
and would kick the arse off the opel/vauxhall.

Yeah. I was trying to recall if you could get it somehow but my memory
is as foggy as Mr Mcfoggy the foggy champion of old Foggytown.

I seem to recall it was based on the car that Nicholas Cage was scared of in
"Gone in 60 seconds" - but that film was pretty much "forgotten in 60
seconds" after I saw it.

Yep - you get the Sand King and Hotring Racer upstairs (am I the only one
who sees the Rockstar-typical double entendre in "Hotring"?) and the Sabre
Turbo and Deluxo downstairs (as well as the Sentinel [beemer] that always
spawns there). You get them for completing each level of car thefts, not the
races or Sunshine missions.

I thought that was a Mustang? a Boss mustang or such.

Oh yes, thanks, the other car I was thinking of is there randomly...
the one that looks like an old beemer... the car the mafia types drive
in GTA3?

That's the Admiral I believe.

One of the few cars that hasn't changed changed much over the years.

On the same note, can anybody actually tell the difference between a
Sentinel and it's XS brother? Aside from looks I mean.

It was actually the sentinel I meant :O) The xs has slats on the rear
window like the mafia car did, I think it's just a turbo version or
something

A 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500 (codename "Eleanor" in the film) after a brief
search. I'm surprised - I thought it looked much worse than that in the
film. I must have killed too many braincells using alcohol since seeing
it...

The Deluxo must be a different car...

Yep - but the GTA3 Sentinel is more modern, as GTA3 is set _after_ Vice City
(despite being release before).

Must be the old shelby is gorgeous. The mustang in Bullit was a show
stealer

yeah, still can't get round all that, specially with some cars being

Shelby Mustang GT500. Looks a lot like it now you mention it.

Nah, I got it :o) It's been said on here before that Vice City should
have been more hilly, but I suppose it wouldn't have really been in
keeping with the geography of Miami.

The first time around the races were much much easier using the reward
cars.

You're kidding, right?

I did the last race in a golf cart and made it to the hospital just before
the last turn when I was overtaken by the rest of the competitors.

The hardest is the first race, round the airport. As with all GTA races,
they get easier the more turns they have, as the AI just can't seem to cope
with corners...

Please note the 'The first time around' in the sentence.

*I* didn't know those races were easy!

For the record, every single one of those races *can* be completed in a
golf cart, but expect to try it again, and again, and again, and ag...
well you get my drift.

The handling characteristics for the Sabre Turbo and Hillary's Sabre
are the same.  Changing the entries on the SABRETUR line in
handling.cfg affects both vehicles.  The line from the original file
is:

SABRETUR        1800.0 2.1 4.5 2.1 0.0 0.2  0.1  70  1.05 0.84 0.52 5
180.0 32.0 R P 6.1   0.52    0 33.0  1.3  0.10 0.3  0.55 45000 0.30
-0.20 0.5  0.40        3009901        1  1

Any performanace gain is from the game's modleing of the race.

The Deluxo looks a lot like a DeLorean (as seen on _Back to the
Future_). The name hints at that direction, too.

According to this page:
http://www.gtaland.net/gtavc/?page=vehicles
it's supposed to be a De Lorean, but if you ask me it looks more like a
Reliant Scimitar

No way is it the delorean, and if it is whoever did it is a crap
modeller. The scimitar that you posted is the GTE, which is the estate
version, the one princess Anne used to get knicked in. It has an
estate rear end, of sorts.. what's the american words? shooting brake?
there are similarities but I still think it is the cavalier, though I
was left scratching my head why there would be a cavalier in the game,
unless Opel were big in america? Actually in this pic it DOES look
like a sh.t delorean copy
