Hi, All.  Which is the main version of Flight Simulator you run these
days?

That's a loaded question :)...

You might have a look, at the FS9 ( 2004 ), versus FSX thread that was going
on here recently.

Myself personally, I run FSX all the way, but have fairly decent hardware.

Me ... on FSX with Acc.Pack (SP2), but still an FS9.1 backhand.

yeah like they said the latest is FSX with its service packs and
acceleration pack with the caveat that FSX requires a prety fast
computer.
FSX is more CPU based than graphics card based.
So at least a pretty fast core 2 duo with a min of 2 gigs of ram is a
start :-)

I run FS2004 (FS9).

Hi Larry,  I still go . . . both ways.  FS9 and FS10.

Now going off topic. BTW, I tried to send you an e-mail a couple of weeks
ago, with some information on FSInn that a friend of mine discovered that
solved an 'invisible plane' problem that several, in our club were having.
But the e-mail kept coming back.  I used the apollo3 address.  There were
players that I, and others, could not see when connected in multiplayer,
even when parked nose to nose.   The invisible pilot COULD see me but I
COULD NOT see him.

It turned out that the invisible guys had entered more than eleven
characters in his username such as Smitty_DV0990.  When all the 'invisible'
members re-named themselves to eleven characters or less,  they became
visible.  We searched the forums but did not see this mentioned and I
thought you might need to know, assuming it was not known.   Oddly enough,
pilots who were in FS9 could still see the 'long username' pilot, they were
only invisible to FS10 pilots.

Sorry to take your thread off topic. But thought it a good opportunity since
I had your attention.

Hi, Don.  It wasn’t meant to be loaded.  I’ll review some of the other
threads.  I didn’t include personal details because I didn’t want to
sway responses based on what might appear to be the preference of the
author.

Thanks for the input.

Sorry.  I relocated my main servers.  The email address works now.  I
had generally announced two months ahead of time (on the main site)
that we were relocating and might experience some glitches.

When I see FSInn questions here I usually give whatever support I
can.  Feel free to also check http://forums.vatsim.net and
http://forum.apollo3.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=101&support=flightsim
(my forum that alerts me whenever there are new messages) among a
number of others.

Thanks for the information.  It has been reported that long Call Signs
caused problems.  I’m sure the resolution will be to limit the number
of characters the field will accept in the next version.

Ping ponging between X-Plane 9.2 beta and FSX SP2

After many months, I gave up on FSX and went back to 2004. I have a
very fast cpu and latest gpu, but my problem has always been the lack
of ability to set the control sensitivity. All aircraft in FSX are
extremely sensitive and jerky on the controls no matter how I set the
sensitivities in the options panel. 2004 is not like that and I sure
wish someone could give me a clue about what to do. Especially strange
is that I don't see too many complaints about FSX in this area.

Muzzy, I purchased FSUIPC for FS9 and the separate version for FS10.  The
registered versions of FSUIPC has a 'calibration section' that allows to
calibrate the joystick and to suppress input 'spikes'.   Not sure if that
would help your condition or not.

That sounds a little odd, what controller are you using?

I have not seen this behavior myself, in FSX - I have a Cougar, and use an
emulation file for it , for flying FSX, however I have also used it in
standard windows mode as well, and I did not get that running it either way.
I made no changes to the controller sensitivity from within FSX either.

I run FS2004 for certain planes not available for FS/x
I run FS/x for the 3rd party graphics.

AND

X-Plane for realism

I used to run them both about the same, but I have found that as time goes
by I use FSX more and more, and FS9 less and less.

Same here. FS9 is now kinda "outdated" as I don't buy anymore add-ons for
FS9. Adding to this is my new rig that I had built on my "personal specs"
and running FSX exclusively.

There's my "workplace" : www.windoscar.ch/images/fsxrig1.jpg

The specs are:

Antec 190 +1200 Case, Power Supply 2 x 650 W
Mobo Intel D5400XS, FSB 1.66 GHz
2 x Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme QX9775 3.2 GHz
8 GB DDR2 RAM
3 x WD 750 GB SATA, in RAID 5 -> 1.5 TB
2 x GeForce 9800 GT2 1024 MB (non SLI)
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
1 x TH2GO 3840 x 1024
1 x 1680 x 1050 22"

And I can run FSX fairly well. Unfortunately the GeForce 9800 GT2-Drivers
are not yet up to what they could be. I still run into framerate problems
with high-polygon areas. No problems though on high-res mesh and textures.
Most of the time I do testing new A/C and writing reviews :-)

Fantastic computer set-up Oskar. I'm just curious though, what do you use
the laptop computer for?

Hi Oskar,

I've asked about it before, not as rudely as this time, but why can't
these blokes get their arse into gear and write some decent drivers for
you - a bloke who has invested in state-of-the-art stuff, long before most
of us/the market will be able to???

What do they say about it all, mate??????

Hi John

Hmm, there are new drivers coming up all the time but of course none of them
addresses a specific FS issue as obviously FS is not the most important
"game" to them. I believe that nobody neither at NVidia nor at MS ist REALLY
imterested in solving the main issues. In a way I think they have realized
that FSX code has gone past the capabilities of present hardware. Each one
is blaming the other but nobody has really a specific idea where the problem
area is to be defined. It is interesting however to see that my machine
usually runs on 27 to 30% (a bit more than 2 cores busy) for more than 80%
of the time. When entering in high density areas it might go up to 100% for
a few seconds and then back to around 35-40% (3 cores busy). OTOH the
picture might stutter without a measurable drop in framerates ( I always run
it at a fixed 25 FPS) which also keeps me a bit speechless. Well, I think
the next step will be with FS11 with (maybe) some new code.... we're allowed
to dream, aren't we? :-))

Funny enough the Google "Flight Sim" runs highest resolution terrain (here
in Switzerland it's <1m/pixel) and also quite high resolution terrain mesh
with the data-stream over the internet and shows about the same or even
better performance..... ok ok, now don't tell me that I'm not a computer
scientist... I'm aware of that :-)) but for a layman it's nevertheless
astonishing.....although I'm sure that there's of course a simple
explanation for that.

Hi Oskar,

I'm not being rude, mate - I just need some more "spare" time, and
sleep, etc, before I feel personally that I have the right to try to
respond, mate......
